#29 is the one to have. It has a cover of Kamandi and an ape fighting over Superman’s costume. I recall a shredded Superman costume dangling from a rock, is that even from Kamandi?

yeah, the accessories are cool, and I can definitely see a use for those.. though 2 much 3-d stuff makes it so you can't see what's going on when you're sitting around the table. Ever seen this kind of setup? Seems like a really good idea, and there's lots of software available to drive it, and it's infinitely customizable with no 3d stuff to block your line of sight. Not as expensive to build as you might think. I don't play tabletop games, per se, but had to do a lot of research on this kind of thing for my job (in video games). Is that a pic of you , tonebone ?

Ha ... no. Just a pic I found on line. Same elements.. hair, beard, stocky... but a different configuration whereby he looks like he could kick my ass.

From todocoleccion, paid on the 18th, sent on the 23rd, received on the 25th via Correos: Bought on the 13th, received on the 25th via GSP + Sending. American eBay seller (fastest ever?): Under-graded copy, auctioned as F/VF when it's actually VF/NM, at least. $99.50 with postage and taxes. Still a good deal for a such great condition.

Nice pickups! I just read Iron Man #114 yesterday, and Hulk #228 is one of the first Hulks (really, one of the first comics) I ever bought.

Hulk #228 is one of the first Hulks (really, one of the first comics) I ever bought. When I first read it (back in '83) I wasn't impressed. But re-reading it now, I just find Moonstone to be a character ahead of its time.

Five books in the latest round of the FB auctions that ended yesterday. First up, the big one to me... it's the Gemstone reprint, not the original, but still hard to find and can be a little pricy. It was going to be the big hurdle to get in getting all the Gemstone reprints, and now it's gotten! the rest of the stuff was mostly mundane... this is another one I've owned and gotten rid of a few times, but now I am slowly putting the post-Crisis Supes stuff together again when I find it in the cheap. This was a buck. another DC first issue on the cheap... this is one I already own, but it's prices have started to go to crazy town so I picked up an extra copy for $3 to see where those prices wind up... and lastly, not quite a polybagged set, but what became the equivalent of it in the 90s, complete with the Toys R Us price tag still on it and going in our growing collection of Disney Comics... and tomorrow I am going to my first comic con since February of '20, so we will see what I can find there. -M

Weird War Tales is one of those series I would like to collect. That's got to be a pretty tough run to put together. 70s DC War Giants were some of my early comic loves.

So, went to my first comic con in over a year today, the usually quarterly Jim & Dan's Comic and Toy Show which is held on the campus of Wright State University. Spent most of the day rooting through bargain bins ($2, $1 and 50 cent boxes). Came home with a bunch of stuff, only 4 comics didn't come from those bargain bins. I also bought one hardcover collection, one toy, two novels and a bunch of sketch cards from Craig Boldman. The first thing I saw when I went in was several long boxes filled with vintage paperbacks at the table of one of the dealers I buy from frequently. I didn't intend to buy anything until I walked the room, but I saw these on top of one of those boxes, and both were books I had been seeking for a while, so I snagged them right away. The second Red Sonja novel, the only book in the series I didn't have, and the first book in the Phantom novel series, leaving me needed only 1 book in the series. At one of the dealers, I saw a very nice Don Rosa Ducks 2 volume slipcase sitting amongst a bunch of stuff that evoked the phrase "which one of these is not like the others?" I started looking at it, and the dealer started complaining how it took up so much space and didn't fit in any of his boxes, so I asked him how much he wanted for it, and I got it for $20, which is a great price on those HC collections. The one splurge book I got though (and one of only 4 that didn't come from the bargain bins) was this... which is the 1958 version released by the I.W. Publishing Super Comics imprint of the 1951 Avon Comics version of The Mask of Fu Manchu. This one has a Carl Burgos cover (the original sports a Wood cover, and the interiors are by Wood as well). The original is a grail of mine, but likely out of my price range, but this is a nice consolation for $30. I also splurged on some original sketch cards done by Craig Boldman, who is a regular guest at these shows. He had a wide range of choices, but I decided to get my Hanna Barbera on... and the one toy I got came from a bargain toy bin, the Pocket Heroes set of the Hawks... the rest of the haul is 99% bargain bin hauls, which I will show in the following posts... -M

I picked up two issues of Angel and the Ape, one from the Foglio mini and one from the original 60s series, which is also a red dress cover. The 60s issues was one of the 4 non-bargain bin books, it ran me $6. The Foglio book came form a 50 cent bin. Two more red dress covers came in the form of these two Archie books out of dollar bins... I am not sure what this following book is, but it looked interesting. Artist Jeff Austin was a guest there, and I have bought many pieces of art and prints from him in the past, but I wasn't in the market for more art today (though I was tempted by a Herculoids piece he had). He recently moved downsizing into a condo and is culling his personal collection, most of which he just sells for a buck each. I got a handful of books from him, including this one I had never seen before... I got a pair of books form one of the few series Darwyn Cooke was involved in that I haven't read. Darwyn wrote these, but the art is by Tim Sale... This pair of DC 100 Page Giants were in a dollar box at the same dealer I bought the Rosa hardcovers I got... I also dug a bunch of issues based on DC animated series out of the dollar bins at the show... more to follow... -M

Found three issues of Dark Horse Presents I didn't have, slowly completing this series... and following the animated theme I seemed to be on today, a quartet of Disney based books... and then I snagged every issue of a Scooby Doo comics I found in the bargain bins today, resulting in this huge batch of the Scooby-gang and friends... rut-roh Raggy... more to follow in another post... -M

A few more random bargain bin finds... an issue of the Many Ghosts of Dr. Graves, which I snagged from a dealer who had buy 5 get 2 free, but I was struggling to find the two freebies, and I dig Charlton horror, so I grabbed this... out of one of the 50 cent bins I snagged these two recent FCBD offerings as I missed the day the past few years... found these two issues of Hercules Unbound to complete that series... and one of the few Atlas books I still needed... One weird trend, I was finding Lois Lane books in bargain bins all day long, usually Bronze, a few silver, and wound up picking up a bunch of those, including #132 which featured a Zatanna guest appearance that I was seeking... Also checked off two issues of Legends of the DC Universe, to get closer to having the entire series. more to follow... -M

I only picked up 3 Marvel books today. Two were from the buy 5 get 2 free dealer (they were $2 boxes) including an issue of Millie that features a red dress, and Marvel Premiere #3 featuring Barry Windsor Smith on Doc Strange (I've owned and sold this book before twice, but for $2 I couldn't pass it up) I found one issue of Kaluta's Shadow... this was another that wasn't from the bargain bins, it came form the same dealer I got the Angel and the Ape issue from, and was a whopping $3 I found a pair of Usagi issues in the dollar bins as well, I will pick up Usagi at that price every time I see them... I found these 4 issues in a 50 cent bin. They had been on my radar for a bit, but Lonestar is asking $12 a pop in high grade and $4 a pop in mid grade, so I never pulled the trigger to try it, at 50 cents each for 4 of the 6 issues in the series, I didn't hesitate. one more batch in the next post, these will all be DC war books... -M
