My goal for the day was to knock some Sgt. Rock issues off my want list, and it took until the last table of the day to find any, but I did find a bunch of DC war books throughout the day. Here were the Rock issues I found... This was the last non-bargain bin book I got today, from the same dealer as Angel & the Ape and the World's Finest issue, also $6... I also found 4 issues of Our Fighting Forces featuring the Losers... and this batch of other war books... and that's a wrap for today's haul... -M

Saturday, I finally got to a store in Buffalo I'd been wanting to hit since they moved into a larger location. Good selection of stuff across the board, but since I'm going on vacation in a couple weeks, kept buys to a minimum from the sale boxes: (Been informally looking for that HoM cover since I saw it used as the image for a surf playlist on YouTube.) Also, tried mail order from crumb.com. The Hups are later printings, but overall, satisfied. Three days from order to delivery + they threw in the Mr. Natural for free.

Peep Show was always a fun read. Great Crumb books too! I remember seeing that House of Mystery cover as a kid and it scared me so much. My neighbor had that issue and he'd taunt me with it hahaha.

Bought on the 19th, shipped on the 22nd, received on the 28th via Royal Mail Tracked & Signed + Correos. Comicana (9th order): That's my finger on the lower left corner, not a tear. These two are more than a little worse for the wear, but I didn't want to spend much on them. I bought them mostly as an example of how well Talaoc finished Buscema's pencils. Nice early Frenz Spidey, specially when inked by Mel Candido. I've completed again "For All Seasons". Still not completely sold on the script, but Sale will never draw again so beautifully.
Nice mini by Stern. The art leaves to be desired, but at least Breeding made it easy on the eyes.
Bought on the 16th, shipped on the 17th, received on the 19th via Royal Mail Signed For 2nd Class (to UK address). UK eBay seller:

So I must ask: what was "wrong" with the FISHNETS?

So I must ask: what was "wrong" with the FISHNETS? This costume has to be the worst version of the Canary, headband and all.

This costume has to be the worst version of the Canary, headband and all. I still laugh at how I read that when Carmine Infantino designed Black Canary, she was his "ideal woman".
So... Carmine's "ideal woman" looks like a HOOKER?
Wayyyy back, when I first saw Black Canary (in that famous Murphy Anderson JSA pin-up), I mistakenly thought she was a swip of Marvel's 60s Black Widow (who also wore fishnets at the time).
But decades later, I realized, between the skimpy black outfit and her riding a motorcycle, DC's Black Canary was actually a swipe of Harvey's BLACK CAT (by Lee Elias)!

Love that Captain America #230 cover. One of my favorites! I bought it as part of a cross-over with Stern's Hulk, but it's clear the cover gets much love. I had to get this issue posted individually to a UK address and then forwarded to me, to get it for a reasonable price (13€). Issues 228 & 229 (leading up to that story on Cap's end) were MUCH cheaper. I don't have Ron Wilson pegged as a great cover artist, but this one was neat. I loved that Moving Day issue of JLI. Hell, I loved most of the issues up to around #50. That one's my favorite for the entire series. Actually laughed out loud. #44 is where I stopped at, but I might get the rest of the Giffen era, they're cheap and not that many more.

I thought of your comment here as I was reading an article in Back Issue #38 this evening on the Huntress. Here's an interesting excerpt from Joe Staton on the visual design of the character: "By the way, Helena's mask owed a lot to Lee Elias' Black Cat character," reveals Staton, "but that's appropriate, considering the 'cat' side of Helena's lineage."

Hit the comic book store in Worcester today to see what they had for Kamandi... most were a bit more that I wanted to pay, but I was able to fill in a few issues with the ebay lot... also got the 'Kamandi at World's End' mini (I suspect it might be terrible, but they have a 20% of 20 back issues deal, so it was worth it). Also got some Green Lantern from a bit before Parallax to go with some $1 purchases I got last time. Also picked up World's Finest 192 - 193 (which is the prison camp one I've been wanting to read).
