Fantastic Four # 371 featured a totally embossed red cover. I was only able to get the second print which was white.

Fantastic Four # 400 was a prism cover. These pictures don't really capture how nice it is.

Various enhancements to these 3 covers. The Wolverine figure has a metallic prism type material Not for nothing, this was a crappy series.

Some of those embossed covers are impressive, considering that in the 90's the masters still had to be sculpted by hand (I'm pretty sure).

When I was looking up the detail on that Continuity 'magic eye' cover, I found this bizarre gimmick cover (which i definitely do not have in my collection) from the same relaunch: In case it is not clear what you are looking at, that is a die cut comic. no, not a die cut cover; a die cut comic. That's right, the entire edge of the comic was die cut into the outline of Crazyman's face. Meaning you are going to have weirdly shaped comic that will be hard to store. For a guy who worked for years in advertising, Neal Adams had some weird ideas about what would sell. I would be interested in that book, particularly how the artists worked around that awkward gimmick when it came to layouts. That would be Tyvek.

From the interior pages I found online, it doesn't look like artist Dan Barry did anything particular with art to incorporate the odd page shape; just extending the art out to the odd-shaped border.
Thank god this will never biodegrade.

Lest we forget, I believe this was the first "variant" cover created to generate multiple sales...

Lest we forget, I believe this was the first "variant" cover created to generate multiple sales... I bought 2 copies of the direct edition. Only time I ever bought multiple copies for collectible purposes.

Lest we forget, I believe this was the first "variant" cover created to generate multiple sales... Is it though ? Didn’t Legends of the Dark Knight #1 have 5 different colors for the cover ?

Here in Australia, 1986 came before 1989, but I know things are different in the northern hemisphere .
