I think this was the regular cover price at the time but it had that extra piece of cover obscuring the real cover. The gimmick was Batman's back being broken.

I remember buying this one off the shelf when it came out. It was on a Easter Sunday and my parents were gone and my sister was watching The Ten Commandments and I had to bike like 3 miles to get to the comic shop.

I have to admit that of all the gimmick covers, I was a sucker for the Cromium covers. The wrap around type were really nice. Shadowman # 0

When I was looking up the detail on that Continuity 'magic eye' cover, I found this bizarre gimmick cover (which i definitely do not have in my collection) from the same relaunch: In case it is not clear what you are looking at, that is a die cut comic. no, not a die cut cover; a die cut comic. That's right, the entire edge of the comic was die cut into the outline of Crazyman's face. Meaning you are going to have weirdly shaped comic that will be hard to store. For a guy who worked for years in advertising, Neal Adams had some weird ideas about what would sell.

Sleepwalker had a cover that was meant to be a Halloween Mask The inside cover had directions on how to cut it out.

Adams also had a gimmick for those covers in the 90’s. They couldn’t be ripped. They were made of some material that prevented them from being ripped by hand. I tried it too.

I would be interested in that book, particularly how the artists worked around that awkward gimmick when it came to layouts.

From the interior pages I found online, it doesn't look like artist Dan Barry did anything particular with art to incorporate the odd page shape; just extending the art out to the odd-shaped border.

Two Catwoman covers with enhancements. The first has slightly embossed parts of the cover and the second has metallic ink on the purple areas.

That was the Tyvek cover I referred to, earlier. Tyvek (trademark DuPont) is a material used in construction to protect exposed walls, before the exteriors are added. It is extremely tear resistant, though it can be cut. However, it also wrinkles easily, which affected how the comics looked. We still have a couple of old rolls of tyvek material, at work; but, we haven't printed anything on them in years. The company doesn't even offer that option anymore.

Nice. I have both those books but I think as the 90's progressed , the big two offered the gimmick cover and a regular cheaper version. I started getting the cheaper version to save a few bucks.
