Both Moebius and Tardi will probably be on my list (though my list shifts a lot so Tardi may make it some days, other days not)
Moebius (not even considering his non-comic design) has both the Incal and Blueberry which would have been enough. Adding in his short stories/standalones like Silver Surfer, his issue on XIII just are icing on the cake.
Jacques Tardi has Adèle Blanc-Sec, and his War of the Trenches. I have not read any of his other stuff, but those two are both excellent and very different.
For previous days: Gaiman was on my list, Kirby and Miller not.

Moebius (Jean Giraud) is probably top 3 for me. Incal, Airtight Garage, Arzach, Edena, Blueberry, Dune character designs, etc. I have most of the Epic Moebius GN, a bunch of the DH collections, and Moebius is the primary reason I started hunting down early issues of Heavy Metal. And while I discovered him via his work with Jodo, and still love the Incal, it was his other stuff done without Jodo that cemented his place among my personal pantheon of creators.
Tardi-I've read a handful of Tardi stories and liked most of them, but not enough to actively track down much more. Our library had one Tardi GN (since discarded) I read circa 2014-2015 and that was my first exposure, and have since read a handful of short stories as well, and I am not opposed to reading more, but it's not a priority for me to do so, though a check check of the library's catalog reveals they got a different Tardi GN in, so I just requested it).

Moebius, Yes: his is one of the first names that comes to mind when I thnk of the all-time great comics artists. I haven't read anywhere near all his work but I have seen a lot of the Heavy Metal stuff back in the day, I've read the Incal twice, and I've been getting pretty deep into Blueberry the last few years. That's enough for me to place him in my personal top ten, though perhaps not enough to know exactly where I'd rank him.
Tardi, I'll give a tentative No, because I haven't read enough yet. I'm kind of guessing here that there are ten other creators I'd be more sure of, as far as my personal taste and experience goes, because even based just on the one big Tardi work I have read, Le Cri du Peuple, he's already close.

Never read anything by either of today’s artists, so going to have to say NO to both.
Missed yesterday’s question about Neil Gaiman, who is definitely a YES for me. There’s a reason why I spent last year buying one TPB of The Sandman every month and it has to do with the writer entirely.

Our lists would be dramatically different. I'm a writer guy and not an art guy. There would be a few cartoonists on my list, but not one pure artist. Interesting--when Trevor initiated this, I bashed out a list of favorites. Came up w/ 13 and knocked three off. Of the 10, only one is only a writer, and only one is primarily an artist (though he's written some stuff). The rest are what I'd call cartoonists. I’m several days ahead in the forum where I stole borrowed this idea and it’s shaping up to have me finishing with one mostly only writer and one mostly only artist. Ask me this last year and I might have had five writers on it. Ask me next month and 75% of my list might be different. There are like 50 creators in my top 20 so far

Today I’m coming for some slots. Today we talking kings. The Dream King and… well… just the King of Kings. Today I’m asking if Neil Gaiman or Jack Kirby are on your lists. Gaiman no. Kirby...borderline. One of the greatest creators ever. I love his designs and his plots and his ideas, but I was never too fond of his art.

Today we’re going to France. Are Moebius or Tardi on your list? That's a hard no on Moebius. I don't know enough about Tardi (never really even seen his comic book work) to have any kind of opinion on him.

Playing catch up here...
Frank Miller - I'm gonna say "no", but "almost". I really love his work on Daredevil and also really enjoyed DKR, Year One and early Sin City. But yeah, even though he has produced some great stuff, he's not quite Top 10 for me.
Neil Gaiman - Again, he's an "almost" for me. I've only read Sandman by him, but that's enough to convince me that he is one of the great comic writers. But that one great series isn't enough to get him into my Top 10.
Jack Kirby - Chalk me up as another one who doesn't quite get the love that his name inspires. I get that he was a chief architect of the Marvel Universe, but honestly, I've always found his artwork kind of blocky and ugly. I mean, it's very dynamic -- and I do enjoy his outrageous sci-fi tech -- but it's also rather hard on the eye for me. In particular, his glamorous women always looked like men in drag. His work got even uglier as the 70s progressed, so he's definitely not in my Top 10.
Moebius - Not Top 10 either. I always enjoyed his work whenever I encountered it in Heavy Metal magazine, but I'm not that big of a fan.
Tardi - Pretty sure I've never read anything he's contributed to.

Just checked this thread... fun!
Frank Miller - He's kinda a one trick pony, like a band who writes a great song but they tried to put out 10 more that are just slight variations on the theme. Definitely NOT in my top 10 creators. On the right day he might sneak in to a top 10 writer list (it's a good trick) but probably not.
Neil Gaiman - Absolutely. He tells a mean story. Among writers, maybe #1.
Jack Kirby - Tough one for me. The guy had amazing, boundless creativity, but his concepts needed to be filtered through someone else to make them into good stories.. stuff he did alone tends to be a riot of cool ideas, but not super coherent. (like Devil Dinosaur and Kamandi). I think if you're talking my FAVORITES, no, but if you're talking history or importance, clearly yes.
Moebius : I haven't been exposed enough to say.. what I've seen is good. definitely couldn't say top 10 though.
Tardi : Never seen the name before.

Day Three Response and Wrap—Up
I’m still very USA-centric in my reading, but am pretty familiar with and love Moebius’ work. The Incal was probably the first (non-Warrior) European book I read, and I loved his work that Marvel put out. But I haven’t dived into enough of his catalog to put him in my top 10. Tardi I have almost no knowledge of, other than some people love him and he did a lot of war books. Pretty sure I own one of his Adèle Blanc-Sec books from Fantagraphics, but I don’t think I’ve read it.
So no to both for me. I figured that’d probably be the same for all of you.
Several great choices coming over the next few days, so pretty sure they’ll be no blank lists by Monday.
My list so far: Frank Miller Jack Kirby

Day Four Choices
How varied are your tastes? Are you a superheroes only sort of fan?
Some might consider one of these two as their absolute number one, but do either Carl Barks or Paul Pope make your list?

Carl Barks - absolutely a top ten. The best adventure writer in comics. Wish I had time to get back to reviewing.
Paul Pope - nope. But I’ve only read a couple of stories by him.

I'm pretty sure I've read some Carl Banks at some point as I have vivid memories of reading Disney comics as a kid. I never collected THB and the rest of Pope's stuff was after my time.

Hm, I found the choice of Tardi kind of odd but figured you'd mentioned him because of familiarity with his work. Probably a better choice for another notable European creator to pair with Moebius would have been Hergé or Uderzo, or maybe Hugo Pratt (of Corto Maltese fame). You might have gotten some different answers.

As for today's question: Carl Barks, maybe. It's kind of the same response I have for Moebius: I do love his work immensely, but I'm still not sure I'd put him in my personal top ten. No on Paul Pope. Also, he has done some superhero work (like Batman Year 100, which I really enjoyed), so he's not quite like Barks in that regard.
