Ok, stealing this idea from a Slack group I’m in. It’s probably been done here before? It’s generating a lot of fun discussion there, figured we’d maybe try it here? Rather than everyone just blurt out our top ten, it’s going to be a gradual process where every day or two I’ll give you a creator or five and you have to decide if they go into your top ten. Decide what makes it a top ten individually, no quibbling over whether it’s based on historical importance or personal preference or ‘favorite’ versus ‘best’ or anything else, it’s entirely up to you what ‘top ten’ means. Just know you’re limited to 10 over the course of the experiment so choose wisely. So first up, is Frank Miller in your top ten? No. I like some of his stories well enough (Batman Year One and Daredevil) but I can't stand his art, and he's definitely not making my top ten based just on his writing, as some of that, as foxley pointed out, isn't particularly good.

I already voted no, but one additional comment. I will never forgive him for this cover on Supergirl Archive 1: It so bothered me, I literally defaced my copy with a "glue job" customization:

No. I do like a lot of his stuff up until probably 300 (which is pretty awful). Honestly you can tell the point at which substance abuse absolutely effected his work. Daredevil, DKR and early Sin City hold up very well. I personally love Year One, though a fair bit of that is Mazzuchelli's (sp) art. At one point he might have been close but not any more.

Miller? No, but he gave Batman as a concept one its most daring & important explorations in the character's history--and that's still not enough to rate him as a "top creator."

Mainstream creators who have worked within the superhero factory system who are both writers and artists? Yes, absolutely.

Frank Miller, I'll say "No" - not that I've formulated my own top ten to make certain. I'm pretty sure I can come up with ten names I'd rank higher, though. Big talent but limited range.

No.
His work on Daredevil reinvigorated a hero that was falling into mediocrity and added layers of richness to the Hell's Kitchen universe, and he rightly deserves all of the accolades for that.
I read DKR once. It was OK, but nothing that changed my life or how I looked at comics.
Everything else I've read of his seems to fall flat.

The only thing I’ve read of Miller I like is The Hard Goodbye (and I actually like Mickey Rourke’s portrayal of Marv more than the actual comic story) and Born Again. I’m not a fan of his art at all. So no he would not even come close to my top ten creators.

Today I’m coming for some slots. Today we talking kings. The Dream King and… well… just the King of Kings.
Today I’m asking if Neil Gaiman or Jack Kirby are on your lists.

Absolutely! Gaiman has that X-factor, that talent. Jack Kirby, well, while not everything of his has appealed to me, enough has. And I have the Jack Kirby Collector saved at my LCS, so that tells you something!

Yes, Kirby would definitely be in my Top Ten. I've enjoyed what I've read of Gaimin, but I prefer his novels to his comics, so no.
Cei-U! There's one!

Today I’m coming for some slots. Today we talking kings. The Dream King and… well… just the King of Kings. Today I’m asking if Neil Gaiman or Jack Kirby are on your lists. No. I had doubts about Miller, who might have been in the ten-ish range, but these two gentlemen aren't on the list. Not that I deny their massive talent and impact on the industry, but if we're talking about favourites, than no.
I really, really enjoyed Sandman (it was no doubt my favourite comic at one time) and several other things Gaiman did in the '80s and early '90s were really neat. However, as had happened with Chris Claremont a bit earlier, I feel his work became increasingly predictable.
Jack Kirby, meanwhile, is a comic-book god and he never disappointed; I loved the Demon, Omac, Kamandi, the FF. That being said, I can't say that I ever actively looked for a Kirby book (except perhaps for the 2001 treasury edition, but that's out of curiosity more than fannish devotion).
Not all great creators are equally appreciated.

Another “no” here. Enjoyed quite a bit of his work, but not a top ten guy for me…
