I hated Identity Crisis. Violent and grim excused as a "mature" story. Told Rags Morales that I didn't want rape in my superhero books. He said something about me wanting kid stuff. Yeah, I want these books to be true to their history. I like dark and gritty comics. Just not forced onto books that are made for that.

It was a love letter to the Silver Age for people who don’t know what a love letter is or when the Silver Age was.

Deathstroke using 90% of the brain's potential capacity might increase his ability to anticipate / predict movements from adversaries he already knows (so it is possible he's set up for an offensive move before the enemy has finished setting up the attack), where the Flash--against any normal person--would always have more than an edge.

#14 Spider-man/X-men Secret Wars # 3At the time I didn't have a huge problem with the outcome because Spidey mostly evaded them, but The X-men fans were up in arms. I was one of those X-fans! I was about to mention the scene, but upon re-reading it I think that the exposition that Shooter crams into it justifies Spidey dancing around the X-Men the X-Men like that (and as you say, he's mostly avoiding them). Xavier is briefly incapacitated and can't mind-lock Peter, Storm doesn't want to incinerate the place, Scott just can't start blasting left and right... I suppose it makes sense. It's still weird to see Logan say "we can explain" while trying to stab Spider-man. Not a convincing negotiating strategy, if you ask me!

I like that Spidey was talking smack.

Let's debunk this 90% of the brain nonsense. The idea that we only use 10% of our brains comes from a long abandoned idea from a century ago. We all use all of our brains. We just have different levels of ability. But it falls into a standard bell curve. This idiotic idea behind Deathstroke is like a hero who has control over the bodily humors. Long discounted ideas of biology.

I don't know why X-Men fans were upset about the scene; Spider-Man is possessed with freakishly super-powered speed, reflexes, strength, and he's incredibly intelligent. Not to mention that in his years up to that time, he was quite battle-tested against a large number among Marvel's worst villains and lived to talk about it, so he should not be overwhelmed by the X-Men.

It's not like he beat them. He just kept them off enough to get away from them. Of course I have run into X-Fans, so no surprise this upset them.

I was annoyed that he made them look like fools, and also that they were so badly written.

The entire book was poorly written. It's not like it was just them. Such a tragedy that a guy did all his BEST writing before he graduated from high school.
