(...) I hope the forecasts are right and this is about to be over. I'm with you on that; my sister and brother-in-law live just outside of the southern limits of Salem and spent most of the week wondering if they were going to have to evacuate as the fires moved closer. Now that the winds have died down they're out of immediate danger, but the smoke is apparently thick as mashed potatoes. She sent me a pic taken from her back yard this morning:
Meanwhile, here in Zagreb, we couldn't ask for better weather: very warm to mildly hot during the day, cool at night and - most importantly for me - very low humidity. A nice change from what was often a very wet and muggy summer. Anyway, stay safe, Rob.

It's definitely thicker smoke here today, enough for people to be warned not to be outside long or at all, and that's being on an island with miles of water between us and the big fires.

Last 3 days have been wonderful. Staying under and just around 100 with cool nights for solid sleeping. Been able to turn off the AC, doors open and just room fans on. I can say that fall is truly the best time of the year hear in Arixona. Cooler temps and splendid fall color changes. Supposed to be breaking back into triple digits for next week around 103-106. That at least is more tolerable with cooler nights and mornings.
Is summer winding down please???

So so smokey in the Seattle area.

I was too optimistic about the air quality - it has continued to vary from "Very Unhealthy" to "Hazardous", and it looks like it will be that way until Monday night at the earliest. It is more humid now and that does feel better, but we're still a long way from good.

The air in my part of Southern Idaho is merely unhealthy and that’s plenty bad enough. We don’t have the huge fires that they’re having in California and Oregon, but there are dozens of small range fires everywhere. It would be a lot worse but we’ve been having a lot cooler weather.

I made a joke the other day that it looked so smokey in Seattle you could hang raw fish out in the morning and have kippers for brekkie the next day. ...and then a Pier collapses. What next? Still smokey here, been about the same for three days now even with a little rain (I willed some of it south where it's more needed)... sort of a fine residue on some surfaces too.

Another attempt at humor in the 'if you're not laughing you might be crying' vein... Man, one place way too much water, another place too little. Life is such a delicate balance so often.

We had nine glorious hours of air that was just "Unhealthy", but now we're back to "Hazardous".

We had nine glorious hours of air that was just "Unhealthy", but now we're back to "Hazardous". Ours is only "Unhealthy for sensitive groups." So that's a plus.

There's a weird layer of 'stuff' on a lot of things outside here, and mail carriers have been not delivering the last few days (so I'm stuck at Spider-Girl #5 for now). I wore a mask one day when it was really 'golden' looking... yeah, a new golden age, sure, 'kaff kaff'. Had a raw feeling at the back of the throat and nose but my eyes have been okay, other people have mentioned their eyes being irritated. My aunt on the mainland has emphysema and is someone at great risk, but we're supposed to get stalled offshore winds starting tomorrow. Rain hasn't really made much of a difference on air quality, hopefully it helps the fire fighters some.

We're back to merely "Unhealthy", and it's supposed to rain tonight and most of tomorrow. I'm REALLY looking forward to it!

It's December 1, temperatures are generally in the 40s (F), and in my garden, bulbs are starting to come up.
Spring is coming.

It was weirdly spring-like up here as well! I did get a little sun, but it was chilly.
