Less than a hour 'til we go live and I'm still re-ordering my list. Changing my mind every five minutes!

Eight participants thus far. Not bad, but we're going to need more if we want a truly representative list. If you're interested but on the fence about contributing, WE NEED YOU!

I have no idea where to even post my picks. Is it supposed to be via PM? If so why are there such rules for the formatting?

I have no idea where to even post my picks. Is it supposed to be via PM? If so why are there such rules for the formatting? Each day there will be a thread to post your pick. Yesterday was Day 1 for your #10 pick. Today is day 2 for your #9 pick. Tomorrow will be Day 3, for your #8 pick and so on. If you miss a day you can catch up. The threads are in this section of the forum. Day one thread Day 2 thread-M

Hey shaxper, do you care if we post many pictures with the entries, or do you want only a certain number?

Hey shaxper, do you care if we post many pictures with the entries, or do you want only a certain number? No hard-fast restrictions. Just keep in mind that some members with slower internet get annoyed by excessive use of images.

Very happy to report that, 3 and a half days in, we already have 44 separate, non-repeated entries for our Top 100. But don't get comfortable! We need participation to keep up (or, hopefully, improve) to ensure that our list is truly representative of this community and not just indicative of the tastes of a few people who decided to participate. Please get involved if you haven't. There is no final voting round; your nominations are how you make your voice heard.

I must say that so far, I find quite a few entries not really suiting the saga concept, IMHO. I love Watchmen to death for exemple, and its one of the greatest stories of the medium, but I thought that a saga implied that the feeling of time passing, characters changing being very crucial. But then again, this is just an opinion. I just thought the specific topic of sagas was great, making a difference with just great storylines or arcs.

There are clear criteria laid out in the OP of this thread, which Watchmen absolutely meets. Part of the fun of this event is the wide range of opinions in terms of both what constitutes a saga and in terms of which are the best. And the reason we need as many people involved in this event as possible is to find a consensus among those different opinions and make sure outliers aren't skewing the list. But, much as it is not a favorite of mine, I absolutely expected Watchmen to make this list. The story has a clear beginning and ending, as well as clear themes running throughout.

I absolutely agree with that, but again, in my mind a saga is a tale of journey, one over some time. The world saga itself comes from the iclandic long form of legends. For me, Watchmen is a great story, maybe even an epic one, but "saga" ethimologically express the sense of passing time through out the telling of a story, hence, my quible Martha Washington is typically a saga, so is Bone, less so a story arch of the FF, it doesn't make either of those lesser than the other, just different forms of stories, just my two cents since I'm very interested in reading others making me discover comic book sagas

I can't believe I'm defending the work, but I think it concerns itself more with the passage of time and the change that brings than most other works in comicdom. By your own definition above, I heartily disagree. Whether we're discussing the initial Lee/Kiry run or the Byrne one (both nominated thus far), time has clearly passed and had an impact on the characters from the first issue to the last. You are entitled to your own definition of a "saga," and you were certainly entitled to negotiate our working definition when the Advance Warning went up, but, at this point, I'd ask that we not be critical of others' selections, as it spoils the enjoyment of the event.

The passage of time is indeed a topic in Watchmen, but you don't feel it in the story being told, it's a theme, not the narrative, averything is happening within a few days. As for the FF, I didn't refer to runs but story arcs, I hope you appreciate the difference, which is crucial : of course the 104 FF run is a saga, but not the #48-#50 story arc. And I'm definitively not talking about "my" definition of what a saga is, as I specifically refered to the actual definition of hte word, which is originaly the islandic word "sögur", which is a specific genre with its own tropes, one of the main ones being telling a story that develops under a consequant amount of time. The Lord of The Rings definitively is a saga, while Blade Runner is just a story, which again doesn't put one above the other. But by no means do I have any ambitions to change the rules of applications, those were apparently set. But I couldn't have discussed those until I were aware of those, which was today, therefore I offer my point of vue now, and try to explain it more precisely as you misunderstood me or my intentions at first. But no biggie

You are entitled to your own definition of a "saga," and you were certainly entitled to negotiate our working definition when the Advance Warning went up, but, at this point, I'd ask that we not be critical of others' selections, as it spoils the enjoyment of the event. And I'm definitively not talking about "my" definition of what a saga is, as I specifically refered to the actual definition of hte word, which is originaly the islandic word "sögur", which is a specific genre with its own tropes, one of the main ones being telling a story that develops under a consequant amount of time. 1. Etymology and functional definition are not the same thing 2. Even if they were, the vagueness of "consequent amount of time" still makes your interpretation of the term an interpretation and not an objective, hard-fast criteria. Matters of great consequence can occur in short periods of time. This event is supposed to be fun; let's move forward in keeping with that intent. I have no intention of changing the rules this far in nor of invalidating others' contributions. Haggling over definitions at this point is counter-productive, and attempting to invalidate the individual contributions of other members is entirely unwelcome.

I specifically stated I had no intention of having the rules changed, nor invalidate any entries! Why are you suggesting that when I was quite clear about this? Still, I don't see why it wouldn't be acceptable to discuss my point of view as some might find it relevant when choosing their entries. It sure would be to me. I'm not forcing anyone to do anything, and furthermore, that's why I took this up here and not in the specific topics entries, since indeed, it's not about challenging anyone.
