I'm not yet quite ready to announce the next batch of episodes, but recording has begun. And if you thought the 3-part Blackhawk discussion was long, you ain't seen nothing yet! Rest up your ears while you have the chance! This next one is going to take commitment.

Well, it took almost two months, and we had to fight through multiple technical issues, including re-recording a whole hour of stuff due to a glitch. But we've finally finished recording the next batch of episodes, so I can at last announce:
#21: Star Wars by Marvel Comics, part 1 (with The Confessor) - Coming soon!
#22: Star Wars by Marvel Comics, part 2 (with The Confessor) - Coming soon!
#23: Star Wars by Marvel Comics, part 3 (with The Confessor) - Coming soon!
#24: Star Wars by Marvel Comics, part 4 (with The Confessor) - Coming soon!
You asked for - well, you got it. And then some!

Just an update — I was hoping to get the next episode posted before I left on my recent vacation, but couldn't quite swing it. I'm back now, though, so I am tentatively hoping to get it posted within the next two weeks. Sorry for the long delay! I've got the next episode about halfway done so far, so progress is being made.

Really enjoyed Part 1 of the Star Wars set.
Couldn't believe SW was turned down by both DC and Warren !
Sure it was before the movie hit the screens, but still, and when you look at what DC was putting out at the time, it was pretty weak IMO.

Really enjoyed Part 1 of the Star Wars set. Couldn't believe SW was turned down by both DC and Warren ! Sure it was before the movie hit the screens, but still, and when you look at what DC was putting out at the time, it was pretty weak IMO. DC had middling success with licensed titles, after the Silver Age. Bob Hope and Jerry Lewis comics may have sold; but, Welcome Back Kotter and Isis didn't set the world on fire. Also, given that they had enough trouble selling their own comics, I could see being reluctant to part with revenue on a title, even if it was a guaranteed success. The control issue was probably another stumbling block. Lucasfilm maintained editorial control over their licenses, which was good for them; but, occasionally problematic for people like Marvel (especially when you have ideas that are close to plots of unreleased movies). Charles Lippincott told of trying to promote Star Wars at one of the big sci-fi cons, only to be heckled by a noted sci-fi writer (I think Jerry Pournelle, but I don't have the quote and may be way off). Early on, Chaykin's poster was about all they had. So, you can see that Star Wars was a hard sell, until there was footage, with the effects. Warren would have needed to do it in color, to really make money on it and that was far more expensive than their normal output. I definitely can see Jim Warren giving it a pass. You have to remember that the most recent sci-fi outing had been Logan's Run, which wasn't quite a blockbuster, though it was successful. Even so, there wee some cheesy effects and that was what was in people's minds, aside from maybe Star Trek episodes. I doubt many were thinking 2001 or had any notion of what Lucas would deliver. DC learned their lesson, by the time they got the Star Trek license, after Marvel proved unable to do much with it. It was never Star Wars levels of sales; but, it had a respectable longevity.

I apologize again for the long delay. Just been having a lot of health issues and stuff. The next episode is more than half done at this point, I just need a free afternoon to finally finish it. Hopefully that will happen soon!

I'm working hard at editing this down, but I'm starting to think we're going to have to go 6 episodes despite my hope to keep it to five. Looking at the raw audio, I think we talked for over two hours just about issues #95-107!
Maybe once I listen to it I'll be able to whittle that down to 30 minutes, but... whew. I hope you all like Star Wars!!
