@supercat do you recall who made that Spider-Man statue? Yeah, that's a Bowen (and one of the ones actually sculpted by Randy). I got really into collecting those for a bit, still have a good number. Many of these are really amazing and to me some of the best representations from the classic eras of my favorite characters.

I love Bowen too, and would love to get more. I had that Spider-Woman bust (love the bust line), but I broke it.

As part of my "staycation" this week, in addition to some great reading, I'm also going through some of my stuff in storage and pulled out some statues today for a quick photo shoot. I used to have these all on display, but we were thinking of moving at one point and I packed them away. Still not sure if we are committed to staying where we are or if we are going to eventually move in the next year or two, so for now I'm not getting too elaborate with display spaces. DC theme for this wave... Some Golden Age goodness (these are some of my favorite, but Aquaman wins it for me...that grin, and those yellow gloves!): Next, a recreation of the first Kara Supergirl appearance. These had a really high shipping breakage rate but I wanted this one so badly and could only find online. The first one I got came shattered, so I had to send back for a refund. The second one had the spaceship door broken off, but otherwise in great shape. It was a very clean break so I decided to glue and keep because I didn't want to roll the dice, and you can't even see the seam so I'm happy I kept it. I bought this Catwoman and Harley from the old WB store in the downtown mall where I lived back in the 90's. It was DC heaven back then between signed art and statues and whatnot and at retail versus after market prices. And with the animated DC shows bringing a ton of old school fun back, I have really good memories of this era. The Supergirl I picked up a little later online, it also had a high breakage rate so I got lucky this one came with no problems! Finally a few random busts...classic Atom on Hawkman's shoulder is my favorite here!

Not sure if there are many "Misties" here, but my wife and I have been huge MST3K fans since way back in the day. Many years ago we caught word of someone who was building extremely authentic working replicas of the bots, meticulously searching out the exact materials that were used to put the originals together, and we were able to purchase both Tom and Crow from them. We've had the pair up in an alcove at the entry of our house for ages (my wife is also a big Dr. Who fan hence the TARDIS in the background), and today I went up on a ladder and gave a proper cleaning:

Changing up the comic on display above my workspace to get into the Halloween season. I can fit 6 comics on the V channel, but can only get 5 in the spread pick, but all 6 are shown below... the two on the left... the two center books... and the right two books... -M

Well since we're playing D&D in the room I have my desk for the summer (better AC than the finished attic gameroom) I sapped out the books on display to a D&D/fantasy theme... -M

The last several months I've been working on getting the room in the basement organized as well as organizing comics and OGN/collected editions, purging stuff I no longer need to own as I will not reread it or just decided it's not for me any more. Finally got to a point where it is starting to come together. Here's a glimpse at the bookshelves in the basement. Marvel trades/OGN on the left shelf, "indy" (i.e. anything not part of the shared DC/Marvel Universe, so some ICON or Vertigo stuff is mixed in), fills the center shelf and the lower part of the right shelf. The top of the right shelf is a mix of Star Trek/Star Wars stuff (novels, trades, etc.). The DC stuff, and the rest of the indy stuff (stuff by creators whose names begin S-Z) is still on the shelves upstairs in the finished attic. I organize the indy stuff beginning with anthologies and stuff by diverse hands, then alphabetical by the primary creator (if there are two creators, I usually, but not always, file it with the writer, but there are exceptions that have reasons that are only meaningful to me. Here's a glimpse at the shelves as a whole... and a peek at the top 2 shelves of indy books (roughly anthology/diverse hands books and A-B) top shelf l-r and second shelf... I try to leave a little room on each shelf for future acquisitions. I'll get more pics taken in the coming weeks... -M

The decor isn't much; but, the content is pretty sweet.

So I finally have the basement gaming room reorganized and set up the way we want it (well about 90% still working on some fine details). Since we didn't play this past Sunday (yesterday) because two of our players are on their honeymoon, I had time to take some pics. So here's bit of a guided room tour (I'll do the reading room and the other comic storage area when I finish the organization projects underway in those areas) The game room is a finished room in the basement. During spring thaws, we occasionally have some water issues if there's a lot of snow to melt and the the ground is still too frozen to absorb the water, so most thing downstairs are elevated or on paving stones to keep them off the ground. As you descend the stairs before you get to the room you pass some art on the wall and a shelf of D&D minis and books outside the room between it and our laundry room This is the door that greets you... with some jazz greats hiding on the back Rotating around the room, starting on the wall to the left of the door where we have installed shelves... going round the corner from there is the wall where most of the comics int he room are stored... everything in those short boxes are DC comics (Marvel and Indy are stored in other areas of the house) Some close ups from that wall... The racks o short boxes finally have the boxes organized, there's a label with a box number on top (except for the graphic boxes) and a small tab in the lower left corner that gives the alphabetical range in the box. I have a master document in googledocs that lists contents by box that I update as I add books. I try to keep each box to only 80-90% full so there is room for additions. And the D&D book spinner... We got this from a bookstore going out of business in the early 2000s (can't remember if it was B. Dalton, Waldens or Borders) at a local mall when they were selling off fixtures. The red dragon is the colossal dragon that was part of the D&D minis line in the late oughts, the blue from the recent Nanometal D&D line. The skulls are fishtank props and the pewter dragon and Fantasy figs were birthday gifts to me form friends way back in the mid-90s that I have had on display somewhere since then. Lastly in the corner of that wall is a shelf that features things of interest to Mrs.MRP, mostly Wonder Woman and Star Wars here... Moving around the corner, we get to a spinner rack and more bookshelves, and see part of the gaming table set up (we played on Saturday so some of the materials for that game are still stacked on the table) The Spinner Rack has 4 sides and has mostly Megos and McFaralne Super Powers figures on it, plus a few odds and ends (some New Frontier bendies, a Hellboy figure set, some of the Jose Garcia-Lopez model sheet variant covers DC recently did and a Toth model sheet variant cover from the current Space Ghost series We'll continue the tour in the next post... -M

Continuing the tour, we go around the corner past the Spinner rack to see our wall of bookshelves, and a better look at the full gaming table set up some shelfie close ups-most of the trades on those shelves are non-big 2, beginning with anthologies/multi-creator books then alphabetical by primary creator. These shelves hold A-M, the rest are upstairs in the reading room, as are the Marvel & DC stuff. We have here some vintage D&D books and D&D art books and there's also plenty of figures on display on these shelves, from D&D minis to Star Trek Megos, McFarlane Legend of Vox Machina figs, Star Wars Micro Machines, etc. and a shelves of what Star Trek and Star wars novels and trade collections we have... D&D minis... D&D artbooks our showcase of vintage D&D books.. The Basic Rules booklet is signed by artist Erol Otus on the cover. The Player's Handbook is signed by Gary Gygax on the title page. Both were signed at Gen Con in 2007. The trade collection shelfies... and then our Star Trek Megos... and some misc. Star Trek and Star Wars stuff (the MicroMachine Star Wars ships were Mrs.MRP's before we met) with some Legends of Vox Machina thrown in for good measure... On top of the shelf with the Micro Machines is more Wonder Woman stuff for Mrs. MRP, with the most sentimental thing I own in front-the ceramic cougar is a the only ceramic piece I ever painted-my mom went to ceramic glasses and did pieces regularly when I was younger and I went and did that piece as a Christmas gift to my grandfather in the fall/winter of 1981 when we were living in Maine. When my grandfather took ill and passed a few years later, he asked me to take it back to keep it safe and remember him by. Forty some years later, I still have it and keep it on display. Next to that bookshelf is the last rack of comic shortboxes, and you can see some Wonder Woman original sketches we have commissioned or picked up to the right of it. These are also all DC books, the top 2 the remainder of the general DC books in alphabetical order, the bottom 2 shelves are all DC war books. These don't have their lids on, as I have a stash of lids somewhere I need to dig out and put together to put on these; the old racks I used before I bought these metal racks to replace them, were slightly tooo narrow to allow the boxes to sit int here with lids on, so I didn't use the lids initially. I'll continue the tour in the next post... -M

Ok, going around the corner from that short box rack, we get a wall of fantasy art and D&D minis and play aid. This is a very old case with sliding glass doors that Mrs.MRP owned long before we met. We have used it to display D&D minis forever and a day... atop a book shelf that has scatter terrain and other play aids is a small assortment of toys, figures, and tchotchkes, You can see some Frazetta trading cards on display behind them... and next to it you can see one of the Tolkien prints we have (it was a set of 4 the others are displayed elsewhere) and more Frazetta cards... and that takes us to the corner that has my desk and work area... some of the art displayed above my work area.. and then moving to the right of my workspace to complete the circuit of the room, our big low vertical file cabinet (used to store comics, now has D&D play accessories organized in it (tiles, scatter terrain, frequently used minis etc.) You can see a lot of the Marvel Legends Retro 3 3/4 Marvel figs on display there... at the end of the file cabinet is a small corner rack that holds more D&D minis and snacks for players, plus the JLGL model sheet turnaround Wonder Woman variant on display There is one more feature to the room with art displays. It's a drop down ceiling, and there is a heating duct that drops lower, which is covered in sheet rock. It created about an 15 inch row, just big enough to hang some framed pieces in landscape orientation, which was perfect to display the Darwyn Cooke variants DC did circa 2013ish? (2012-204 I don't remember exactly when it was during the period befoe the shop here in town closed when I was helping him sort and price back issues he got it). So here are the Darwyn covers framed on display... and that completes the game room tour. Hope you enjoyed it. If you have any questions feel free to ask. I'll get to the other spaces eventually, but it might be a bit before they're ready. -M
