#49 Gossamer Looney Tunes CreationFrom WikipediaThe word "gossamer" means any sort of thin, fragile, transparent material — in particular, it can refer to a kind of delicate, sheer gauze or a light cobweb. The name is meant to be ironic, since the character is large, menacing, and des My Personal ThoughtsI'm a big bigfoot/sasquatch fan and I adore this monster from Looney Tunes because he such a lovable character and have so many great mannerism and they made him both scary and cute at the same time. I find this character so unique because he is all hair and according to Wikipedia above "a light cobweb" and that what his hair is like to me. In the following two You Tubes clips that I will showing you shortly the description of "a light cobweb" comes to mind. This is one of the most unique character and one of the most underrated one indeed. To me, he is an oversize cute hairball with touch of whimsical delights of huge horror that delights us all. Cute Gif of GossamerWith so many great cartoon characters - I find it hard to believe that I had him down to Number 49. For the record, I will be doing one a day to give all of you a chance to see the next character and I wanted to make this last. I never knew that that Monster had a name.

I never knew that that Monster had a name. He didn't get the name until Duck Dodgers and the Return of the 24½th Century in 1980.

#45 Scooby-Doo Hanna Barbara CreationFrom WikipediaIn 2013, TV Guide ranked Scooby-Doo the fifth Greatest TV Cartoon of All Time. Scooby-Doo is an American animated cartoon franchise, comprising several animated television series produced from 1969 to the present day. The original series, Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, was created for Hanna-Barbera Productions by writers Joe Ruby and Ken Spears in 1969. Hanna-Barbera and its successor Warner Bros. Animation have produced numerous follow-up and spin-off animated series and several related works, including television specials and made-for-TV movies, a line of direct-to-video films, and two Warner Bros.–produced theatrical feature films. My Personal ThoughtsI watched a lot of this cartoon series when I was babysitting my three nephews in the late 80's and I pretty much watch it on a regular basis for about a hour at a time. They all love the Mystery Machine / Van pictured below and off they go to solve mysteries and get things back in order. It was a fun show for all ages and it's one of the most popular cartoons series of all times and to me Scooby Doo was instrumental of keeping the kids entertained of his delightful antics that made him a household name. At my Comic Book Store it was decreed that it was popular with the boys more so than with the girls - even so my two nieces watch it with us and they were 4-6 years older than my nephews. In my heart, I did not care for Scooby Doo at first and after watching for more than 4 years babysitting my nephews - I later learned to like this cartoon and one of my favorites of all time of where Scooby Doo meets Batman and Robin. This clip is under 11 minutes long. Anyway, it's was a great cartoon show and it's a winner in my book! A fun gif for you to enjoy!

Cool idea! Question though: are you going to count variations among your listing? For example, would Duck Dodgers make your list if Daffy was already on it? I'm afraid not, I was going to put Darkwing Duck into consideration and decided not to include him and I'm not a fan of variations type characters at all. Sorry String. Oh well, still looking like an impressive list so far though. I loved Thundercats growing up. Terrific cast of characters, a great family aspect to them and Snarf was the glue that held them all together. And a classic rocking theme song to boot! Scooby is only #45? Wow. I always liked his team-up episodes the best ( Batman & Robin, Jerry Reed, Mama Cass Elliot, the Three Stooges and the Harlem Globetrotters stand out the most to me) The Mystery Machine is a great classic vehicle but I'm still wondering, what type of van is that? Chevy, Ford, Dodge, what??

Chevy, Ford, Dodge, what?? From WikipediaThe Mystery Machine looks like an early to mid 60s Ford Taurus Transit Van, obviously modified with a different dash, there's a bench seat with (possibly) either a ford small block 221 cui V8 with 145 hp and 218 lbft of torque if the van is an early 1960s or a 260 cui V8 with 164 hp and 258 lbft of torque if the van is mid 60s for the animated series (by the way the engine is most likely under the seat), while in the live-action films they used a late 80s Chevrolet Chevy Van in Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins and an 80s Ford Econoline for Scooby-Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster, but the first live-action movies they used a modified Australian Holden van which is actually a British Bedford van from the 1970s. In the direct-to-video animated films released between 1998 and 2001, the Mystery Machine bears a striking resemblance to the Chevrolet Astro / GMC Safari. From Me60 Ford Taurus Transit Van I think it is the 60 Ford Taurus Transit Van - because it's closely resemble that van. 80 Ford Econoline Van

Scooby Doo is indeed a classic. I'm surprised that he doesn't rank higher, though of course there are a lot of great cartoon characters out there. Maybe Shaggy can still make the list!
I used to watch this after school every day in the early 80's.

dbutler69, Shaggy did not make the list - Sorry about that because I had to cut him out because Scooby has a great deal of importance than Shaggy.

#44 Wonder Dog Hanna Barbara CreationFrom WikipediaWonder Dog is a fictional canine superhero from the original Super Friends television series. The character appeared in both the animated series, as well as the comic book of the same name, but wasn't incorporated into the DC Universe until 2008. My Personal ThoughtsWhen the Super Friends hit the airwaves back in 1973 this cartoon series became an instant favorite of mine and this character Wonder Dog was a big part of that animated experience. Even though that this character was on one season before he was replaced by Gleek the season afterwards and I will never, ever forget him. He reminded me of Dynomutt (pictured below) who is also on my list too along with Gleek. Dynomutt - He's on the list too ... At what rank and that's for you to find out later! Wonder Dog had a heart of gold, lovable in many ways more than one, and really have a soft heart for me for one season of the Super Friends. I know that most of you are shocked to see him on this list and but he had a very lasting impact on my life and that's why I ranked him one spot higher than Scooby Doo. I was wrestling with that problem with this list and I'm not a fan of Scooby Doo because I still think it is a silly show begin with. It was very debatable to me and that's why Hanna Barbara's Super Friends Cartoon Series had a big impact in my life and Wonder Dog was a part of it. One of the best intro of Cartoon History!

#43 Bambi Walt Disney CreationFrom WikipediaThe main characters are Bambi, a white-tailed deer, his parents (the Great Prince of the forest and his unnamed mother), his friends Thumper (a pink-nosed rabbit), and Flower (a skunk), and his childhood friend and future mate, Faline. For the movie, Disney took the liberty of changing Bambi's species into a white-tailed deer from his original species of roe deer, since roe deer are not native to North America, and the white-tailed deer is more widespread in the United States. The film received three Academy Award nominations: Best Sound (Sam Slyfield), Best Song (for "Love Is a Song" sung by Donald Novis) and Original Music Score. My Personal ThoughtsWhen, I was a young boy between six and eleven; I didn't get a whole of exposure of Disney Animation and one of the reasons is that most of the cartoons were on Sunday of which my parents at that time do not like their children watching much television during the day because this day was Family Day and we shouldn't relay on Television to entertain you. Having said that most of the Disney Cartoons were on Sunday rather on a traditional Saturday Morning. I wanted to get that out of the way. Back to Bambi, I consider Bambi one of the most iconic animated Disney Creations and one of the most popular and beloved creation of which I did not get much exposure of and because of that the low rank. My Mother and I were the only one that saw rerun of Bambi the movie was made back in 1942 while my older brothers and my Father did not want to see it. My brothers and my Father saw it one time an they did not care for it. My Mother and I were the only fans of Bambi and that's why in our family Disney Characters did not get much respect for. Bambi is lovable. sweet, gentle, and most importantly quite expressive too. I just find her one of the most delightful of all creations that Disney created and to me one of the dearest characters around. One of my favorite scenes in Bambi the Movie back in 1942.Loving Scene with Faline
