*raises hand* His current book (Starlight) is actually quite good.. it's kinda 'What if Luke Skywalker retired to Earth, but then the rebellion needed him again 30 years later?' Mostly, he's terrible, I agree... though I like the beginning of his Ultimate X-Men run as well. Also, I like the Nolan movies . Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are both acceptable superhero entertainment, The Dark Knight might even be a little above average. But the Nolan Cult persists in acting like Nolan is Orson Welles for superheroes.
And The Dark Knight Rises is a fine movie when Anne Hathaway is onscreen. But the focus moves to Bane, and five or six hours of that is too much. I don't mind at all that a lot of is stupid. It's the tedious parts that I don't like.
Liking Nolan is not the issue. Deifying him is.
Dark Knight Rises was the perfect summer blockbuster-you couldn't understand anything Christian Bale said as Batman and you couldn't understand anything Bane said when he was on the screen, so you could click off the part of the brain that focuses on dialogue and story and just watch the pretty explosions and ass-kicking while you munched popcorn and sipped pop. -M

She looks beautiful but once she breaks both ankles she will have a hard time kicking ass. Or anything else for that matter. Yeah I was thinking about how one would justify those high heel boots. She has had them in the comics for ages. Since this will be applied to film though....I'm not sure what practical use they will have.

So I was browsing another forum (a sports forum) and after the new photo of Wonder Woman was posted in a thread, some random user simply made the statement "Wonder Woman is a terrible character". That is it. I asked the user how many Wonder Woman stories have they actually read. Regardless of the impending responses, I won't continue to debate with someone that makes a bland statement like that without substance. I was wondering though, why has Wonder Woman gotten the short end of the stick time and time again? There are tons of Wonder Woman fans out there, but there are also a lot of people that simply think she isn't on the level of Superman and Batman because..."reasons". I'm assuming most of these people have never even picked up a Wonder Woman comic of course. I'm guessing part of it is because she's a woman? But what else is it? Why don't folks want to give her a chance? Maybe she isn't as relateable? At the same time I'm not sold on Batman being that relateable. I know his parent died, and he's human. But he's also rich, a playboy, and has traveled everywhere. I don't know anyone like that lol.
Personally I think Wonder Woman is a badass. I love the way she fights and her character from the stories I've read always seems to be learning about the way the world works and how it differentiates between how she was raised. So I've enjoyed her personal journey as an outsider to understand society. She's also beautiful, but that is just a side trait like I said earlier.

I think Phil Jimenez is my favorite Wonder Woman writer. He loves her so much and it showed. His encyclopedia is also a fun read for that. Plus, that art. The civil war showed Hippolyta in a poor light, but it wasn't the first time she her own interests above the Amazons (Artemis) and I still enjoyed his Hippolyta as much as I always have. I liked Fury so much I read Young All-Stars and I think Hippolyta as Diana's legacy is the greatest. Byrne's run was kind of bad, but that made it worth it for me. The time travel part makes it even greater. She's the first Wonder Woman and a legacy character.
My favorite single story in League of One. She's so badass. The art is beautiful, too.

It was pretty dire at times. (I had high hopes at the beginning because I thought Anne Hathaway was good. And I did like the last 45 minutes because "Gotham as urban madhouse" is a theme in the comics books that is seldom done very effectively, so the Nolan treatment did reach my minimum standard for that particular theme. But I got pretty bored for a long stretch in the middle of The Dark Knight Rises.)
The "perfect summer blockbuster" would be The Avengers or Dawn of the Planet of the Apes or X-Men: Days of Future Past. Or The Dark Knight. This part of the description -- "you could click off the part of the brain that focuses on dialogue and story and just watch the pretty explosions and ass-kicking while you munched popcorn and sipped pop" -- is more applicable to imperfect but acceptable summer fare like Thor: The Dark World or Iron Man 3 or The Man of Steel or The Lone Ranger. Which vary greatly in quality but have pretty big flaws and are never boring.

Sorry, the sarcasm of "perfect summer blockbuster" didn't come across. It wasn't complementary. It was a critique of how bad the sound editing and thus the story of the movie was in that large chunks of it were incomprehensible to the audience but it didn't matter because it was just actions and explosions despite all the claims of depth and intelligence by some fans. The fact you could cut out the dialogue (which no one could understand clearly anyways) between the protagonist and the main antagonist and it has no bearing on the film is not a good thing. -M

They're only as silly as capes. Ha yeah that's fair enough. Heels are probably less silly in comparison actually. I think for me it has to do with how thin some artists draw the heel. To the point where it looks like it'd be difficult to walk around yet alone fight crime. The thicker boot heels in the video though I think make sense functionally as she explains it.

You're using blockbuster as a negative noun, and it's easy to see why in a movie industry where we get stuff like Battleship every year. (I try real hard to stay away from the ones that look really bad, so if Battleship is some unknown gem, I apologize in advance to its supporters.)
That said, I'm looking forward to Guardians of the Galaxy.

(And I'm kind of dreading the Superman vs. Batman movie because of the whole "Nolan effect" that seems to be infecting the DC movies the last few years. I will probably see it in the theater because of Wonder Woman, but expectations are low.)

No more real world analogies that are about as subtle as a brick to the face.

Well since that seems to be the antithesis of everything DC publishes now (except maybe Harley Quinn) and everything they do on the big and small screen, you are going to be waiting for quite some time to see that-you'll need a regime change at both DC publishing and DC entertainment before it happens. -M

I thought this fan film was pretty good. Even though she doesn't appear in full costume the fight choreography is quite good.
