I thought it was good. The Millar excess of Strikes Again wasn't there. It has the Millar tv narration, with more modern texting/chatgroup narration added, plus internal narration from several characters. More importantly, I got the sense that Millar was treating characters other than Batman with respect. Wait, with the whole debate on whether Frank Miller actually wrote or not this issue, you tell us that It was Mark Millar all along who was behind all this madness?

Read the first issue... and wasn't particularly impressed. It comes across as almost a pastiche of the original, without the manic energy and innovation that characterised the original.

I'll be picking up mine this next weekend and my Midtown variant is in the mail. If I'm not too keen on it I might just keep the #1s.

I quite liked the Atom insert. Me too. The art was really sharp, but I suspect that Janson was doing a lot of the heavy lifting.

The strange thing with this issue for me was the art. Its nice n all, I do like both of the Kubert Bros work, but does it suit THIS Batman? We're talking Dark Knight, and love it or loathe it, love or loathe the new Miller images the internet is exploding over, it is just too damn clean for the story. I was constantly reminded of how these stories need Frank's dirty world, some of the images are cool Batman shots, stuff I'd love to see in the ordinary book, but they're not Dark Knight.
...and in saying that I thought it was just as well Miller didnt draw the damn thing based on that Atom story. I dont know if I could take a whole issue of big heads on little bodies. Something about the proportions there just didnt do it for me.

I thought it was a decent enough issue, but it's hard to judge against the previous entries because it is so much more decompressed than DKR or Dk2

First couple of pages were pretty dumb and quite a turn off for me, but by the end it improved. At least enough that I'm intrigued and willing to check out the next issue. We'll see.

I'm really interested in it so I bought #1. I was confused as I read it, am I supposed to have previous knowledge (DK2)?

Yeah, a lot of this won't make sense if you aren't familiar with DK2 as it takes place a few years after that story. I mean, you don't necessarily need to read it if you don't want to(although I suggest it because it was zainy fun) as long as you keep in mind that Bruce succeeded in "reawakening" his fellow heroes, and that Superman and his daughter have decided they should do more with their powers than save people then the rest should unfold by itself.

Waiting for the later sale. I want it, but not that badly. Same... I'll probably get it in trade at some point, but I don't need to pay the super-over-inflated price for the single issues... I did the same thing with Sandman:Overture (which I have to read soon)
