The singer and songwriter, Mack Rice, has died. He was 82.
Mack passed away at home in Detroit from complications relating to Alzheimer's disease.
He was a hugely impressive songwriter.
Amongst his many penned songs, include ‘Mustang Sally’ (Wilson Pickett), ‘Respect Yourself’ (Staples Singers), ‘Do The Funky Penguin’ (Rufus Thomas), Cheaper To Keep Her’ (Johnnie Taylor), ‘Short Stoppin’ (Veda Brown), ‘(If Loving You Is Wrong) I Don't Want To Be Right’ (Bobby Blue Bland), ‘Shake A Tail Feather’ (Ike & Tina Turner), ’You Got To Change (Your Evil Ways)’ (Leah Dawson), ‘The Memphis Train’ (Rufus Thomas) and ‘My Little Girl’ (Eddie Floyd).
Mack began a solo career, signing to Stax Records in 1967.
He co-penned several songs for artists on the Stax imprint, including ‘Respect Yourself’ (by The Staple Singers), ‘Do The Funky Penguin’ (by Rufus Thomas) and ‘Cheaper To Keep Her (by Johnnie Taylor).

Jasmine (my dog) 1999-2016  I had to have her put to sleep today. The vet believes it was kidney failure. She was originally my grandmothers dog, but she's been mine since 2011. She was fit and in great shape for her age (that pic is from 2014) but took a quick turn for the worse on the 16th. She had this little stuffed dog that came with her when she was a puppy back in 1999. I buried it with her. She was still playing with it as late as just a few months ago, believe it or not. Never saw a dog that old toss a toy around like that. I spent a lot of time at my grandparents house so she grew up with me. I live alone, so it's especially tough. I'll miss her. |

Deepest condolences Robert. It's hard to lose a constant companion like that. We lost both of our dogs (who were around the same age as Jasmine) within 2 weeks of each other a year and a half ago and it was like losing family. it's hard. It gets better with time and the memories of the joy they brought are forever.

If you don't love dogs, you'll never understand the depth of the ache a dog's death leaves in your heart. RIP, Jasmine.

Robert, losing a precious pet like Jasmine must be a hardest thing for any owner to do and I wanted to say this my heart and love goes out to you and your family. I'm in total loss of words here and I just wanted to say this - I'm so sorry to hear this.
