Bad week for jazz greats. R. I. P. Roy Haynes. Beyond his own sessions, dude played drums for absolutely everyone. Long stints with Lester Young, Stan Getz, Charlie Parker and Sarah Vaughan. Still a phenomenal drummer and still pushing forward well in to his old age.

RIP to British actor Timothy West, of Edward the Seventh, Day of the Jackal, Cry Freedom, Ever After, Rough Cut, the Royal Shakespeare Company and tons of other theater and radio.
Terrific actor and he was married to Prunella Scales, of Fawlty Towers, for 60 years!

King Crimson's Robert Fripp just posted this:
(actually 80, he would have turned 81 next month.
Sinfeld's lyrics were one of the foundational aspects of prog rock. His work with Crimson, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, and Roxie Music were instrumental in the success of those bands.

The brilliant '60s record producer Shel Talmy has died from a stroke at 87. He was an American by birth, but relocated to England at the start of the 60s and produced some amazing records by the likes of The Kinks, The Who, The Creation, Manfred Mann, the Easybeats, David Bowie (when he was calling himself Davey Jones & The Lower Third), Amen Corner, and progressive folk acts like Pentangle, Bert Jansch, and Roy Harper. I followed his Facebook page, where he would post reminiscences of recording sessions with these groups. He was a fascinating guy and played an important role in some of my favourite 60s recordings. www.theguardian.com/music/2024/nov/15/shel-talmy-dies-producer-who-kinks-david-bowie

I still use BASIC. The database system I've spent most of my career working in uses an enhanced form of BASIC as its primary programming language.
RIP Mr. Kurtz.

I was still using BASIC to teach my students how to code in their off-time until we made the move to macbooks. I've tried running it through emulators, but the versions I've found have been far too limited. Such a logical, precise way of coding. Rest in peace, sir, and thank you.

Sinfield's lyrics with KC and ELP stood out to me pretty early on in my exposure to those records.
