I'm really sorry to hear about Jasmine, Robert. I know how difficult losing a beloved dog is.

I appreciate all the kind responses. It's so odd, particularly those first few days/weeks, when you're so used to them meeting you at the door and then they're just not there.

It's being reported on Twitter and Facebook that Jack Davis has passed away at 91. Well, that sucks. Was "Gentleman" Jack the last of the old EC masters still standing? What a long and storied career this monumental talent enjoyed. And he was by all accounts one of the kindest, most humble men in the business.

I appreciate all the kind responses. It's so odd, particularly those first few days/weeks, when you're so used to them meeting you at the door and then they're just not there. I know exactly what you mean. We have two little female schnauzers, Hildie & Greta. Even when they're being groomed, and are not here, the house feels so empty. No schnauzer on the couch or bed or coming to help me shred bills or take out the trash. We lost Gertie, Hildie's sister, 8 years ago due to an accident at Banfield Hospital. She was only 11 months old. We, and sister Hildie, grieved. We even took the next day off to spend with her, and in our case, we got Greta (the "replacement puppy" as my wife teases me) and got Hildie another companion. It takes time, Robert. When it happened, one of the things I read online helped me. We see them mature so quickly from puppy to adult and later to mature adult. Their lifetime is so compressed compared to ours, and that's also the bittersweet at the end. I'm not looking forward to the end with either of these two either, as none of us do, but knowing that's the way nature has it, then it helped me to deal with it. I was fortunate enough to have Gertie for the short while she was with us, and you were fortunate to have Jasmine for years, and it sounded like she was happy with a good life. When I told my mom that Gertie had passed she said, "She couldn't have had a better life." That made me feel good too, cause we love and pamper the little rascals and they do have a good life. Of course you'll always have the memories of her and my thoughts, and my wife's, go out to you and Jasmine to give you comfort and lighten your burden. Thanks for sharing Robert.

R.I.P. JACK DAVIS
Famed EC, 'Mad,' Movie Poster Artist
Posted by Milton Griepp on July 27, 2016 @ 4:46 pm CT
Jack Davis, an artist and cartoonist whose career with EC Comics began in 1950, has passed away at the age of 91. In addition to EC, Davis was best known as artist for Mad Magazine, a relationship that began in 1952 and continued, with interruptions, for decades. At EC, Davis contributed covers and stories to titles across the line, our favorite work of his career. He was one of the last surviving artists that worked for EC.
Davis also worked in animation design for Rankin-Bass; created movie posters, including It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World; and did illustrations for album covers, magazine covers and illustrations, and for his alma mater, the University of Georgia.
Davis was inducted into the Will Eisner Hall of Fame, and received a National Cartoonists Society Lifetime Achievement Award and a Reuben Award.
Wanted to share this but I see others beat me to the news.
Honestly, I didn't think Jack Davis was still with us. A giant, and a true gentlemen, in comics and advertising.

She did have a very good life and never had any major health issues until the very end. I'm very thankful for that.

(Love those terriers, btw. We have a Cairn, our second. What great dogs!)

JACK DAVIS of MAD MAGAZINE was the one of the most intriguing man that I ever met, I heard him speak one time and this guy speaks with authority and loves his fans. I wished I had a private moment with him but his works in Mad Magazine was truly special and he'll be missed by all of us. We lost a living legend and a very talented one indeed.

Another recent death - fan & pro artist John Fantucchio. Most of his comics work was in fanzines in the 60s and 70s, including a lot of covers for RBCC.
