Here's a translation from the Fiveman wiki page: Thanks so much for this! I don't totally understand the translation but can make sense of most of it. Any idea what the "crisis" was that "doomed the series around 1987"?

Yikes. Appeared in two episodes before it was destroyed? Not exactly a receptacle for kids' wildest imaginations and fantasies.

Any idea what the "crisis" was that "doomed the series around 1987"? I believe it's referring to Choujinki Metalder being cancelled after 39 episodes.

I believe this is the VHS tape that came with the toy. It's an instructional video on how to put it together:

Interestingly, the Ohranger series had low ratings but record toy sales. Are you familiar with those toys? The success seemed to be based around compelling kids into buying all six robots.

I can usually be found hanging out somewhere between 1980-1989.

This episode is for anyone who loves vintage playsets: Another outstanding episode. That really does turn into a pretty damn cool playset.

Decided to focus on some newer, inexpensive stuff this time around. $40, and it's amazing:

Decided to focus on some newer, inexpensive stuff this time around. $40, and it's amazing: Fantastic episode - I'm actually shocked at how good of a battleship they managed to pull off! I've seen some third parties do designs that look beautiful but accomplish it with such insanely convoluted systems of panels and tabs (and I like fairly complicated transformations) but it's refreshing to see a design accomplish very nearly the same thing in a much more elegant and solid fashion. Thanks for introducing it to us!
