They're funnybooks. It's fine. Ditto, again. If I had to choose between complete canon-adherent continuity, or Batman meeting Sgt. Rock, I would choose the latter. Those stories are so fun and varied, and are no less memorable, or important, in my opinion. Well, the discussion isn't the quality of this or that story, but what the OP means by "violation of continuity". If we say that a story is enjoyable despite having violated continuity, well, we must first establish whether it has, right?

Well, the discussion isn't the quality of this or that story, but what the OP means by "violation of continuity". If we say that a story is enjoyable despite having violated continuity, well, we must first establish whether it has, right? I'm just saying that that particular bugaboo has never bothered me. Or at least it hasn't in a very very long time. Continuity is either a tool or it's a straight-jacket. If it's used as a tool it can make for a richer and deeper experience. And that's a good thing. But a slavish adherence to continuity, particularly when you have creations that are 60-70-80 years old is a straightjacket that is going to stifle creativity. Which, true, doesn't answer your question. But for me, the answer is, violating continuity (unless it's the inherent internal continuity of the character) just isn't an issue. So I liked the story for what it was. If it violated continuity I just didn't care.

Is nothing serious to you? Yeah. But I'm not allowed to talk about those things here. I'm game for a thread devoted to potatoes. I am Irish, after all.

Yeah. But I'm not allowed to talk about those things here. I'm game for a thread devoted to potatoes. I am Irish, after all. What about a thread about pasta? Real pasta, I mean. Not those things you guys eat at Olive Garden. This pasta.

Would Superman 75 (Death of Superman) qualify?
Our boy is not supposed to get himself perished.
But the storyline got little Rags into the comic store.

Actually, Alan Moore--and his predecessor on Saga of the Swamp Thing, Marty Pasko-- did ignore a huge swath of Swampi's continuity, declaring that everything in the original series published after the last Wein/Wrightson issue (#10), including Swampi's guest shots in Challengers of the Unknown, never happened. It was a good decision, mind you--those weren't particularly good stories--but it did violate established continuity.
Moreover, it ignored the ending of the original ST series in which the character had been turned back into a human - which would be impossible on Moore's interpretation.
I do like some of Jeff Parker's team strips, particularly Agents of Atlas and Future Quest, but he throws a lot of retcons in (some I like, some I don't, even though I always enjoy the actual comic).

Galactus being the sole survivor of a universe predating the Big Bang instead of being just another dude exposed to radiation was certainly a bit of continuity disruption that I agreed on, but I can't say when it exactly happened. Might have been in the Official Handbook, for all I know!
There are lots of "continuity be damned" episodes in the different Conan runs at Marvel, but there's one instance I was O.K. with: the entirety of Chuck Dixon's run. He basically ran an entirely independent timeline for Conan's career, and characters were sometimes vastly altered (Valeria being the most egregious case).

That's very true, and Pasko went further than simply ignoring those two issues and the CotU team-up... When Saga of the Swamp Thing was launched, Pasko plainly stated that he was dropping them from continuity. (I think he referred to the idea or its originators as "misguided"!)
