I was able to snag a few key issues I've wanted for a long time in my latest pickups. You won't believe it, but I picked up this 1st appearance of Spider-Woman for $5 dollars. Sadly, there is some writing in pen on her leg but for that price I couldn't pass it up. Also got Man-Thing #1 for under $10, which had eluded me for a while now. And Dracula vs. the Silver Surfer? Had to have it. I also got a beautiful copy of the 1st appearance of Anthro, just love that cover. Also grabbed Hero for Hire #9 and the two issues of Giant-Sized Super-Villain Team-Ups as recommended in the FF thread.

Nice pick ups man. That Spider-Woman book is on my radar but always goes for more than I want. Every time I see it, it's high grade, I don't see many reader copies floating around.

Just got back from Hartford Comic Con. Spent more than I planned, mainly because I found a guy with almost a whole run of Savage Sword of Conan for $2 each. I ended up buying 54 issues and could have gotten more if my checklist hadn't been outdated.
Besides that huge haul I brought these back from the dollar or less bins:
Dawn #1 Classic Illustrated: Paul Bunyan Jughead #162 Dilton's Strange Science #1, 3, 5 Betty and Me #81, 83 Archie #258, 265, 399, 433, 436, 437, 440, 441, 442, 500, 609 Pep #238, 297, 306, 357, 360, 362, 369, 375, 378, 393 Love Stories #152 Concrete #1, 2 American Splendor #1 (Vertigo) American Splendor: Terminal #1

I'm not surprised about the Marvel Spotlight for $5; I picked up my copy in Fine condition from Half-Price Books for $5.40 about a year ago. And $10 for Man-Thing #1? That's a great deal; my copy is beat to hell and I've been looking to upgrade it, but most copies I find in decent condition go for $25 or more.

Got back from the Long Beach Comic Expo. Didn't get a whole lot of classic comics, but picked up a couple of things. Dawn, Return of the Goddess #1

I love the look, and Linsner is def talented, but kind of like Vampi, besides looking hot, what's the appeal of Dawn ?

I love the look, and Linsner is def talented, but kind of like Vampi, besides looking hot, what's the appeal of Dawn ? Although quite exposed, she's also extremely mysterious. The dark storylines in her mini-series, eternal fights between good and evil with angels and devils visiting earth surely isn't something for the average reader. But if you're looking for something different and like to stare at nicely drawn babes, Dawn is for you. She has quite a following with both male and female fans, not to mention the many Dawn-lookalike contests. Not bad for someone whose first appearance in comics 25 years ago was as a mascot on the covers for Cry For Dawn.

Not bad for someone whose first appearance in comics 25 years ago was as a mascot on the covers for Cry For Dawn. Problem is take Dawn out, put Lady Death (or some of the other 90's bad girl protagonists) in, and the description fits just as well. It's pretty standard formulaic tropes for 90's bad girl books. These books got a lot of attention because they were different than mainstream super-hero fare, but for my money they were no less formulaic in their own manner as the standard fare they purported to be different than. I will cop to not being a Linser fan, I thought his Conan covers for Dark Horse were some of the worse from that run...and his interpretation of the character is one of my least favorite ones to see print. -M

After forty years of wishing I still had it, I finally bought my own copy of the greatest comic book ever published (IMO): Marvel Annual 1973. This was the first Marvel publication I ever read, and it doesn't get any better than this: The Hulk versus Tyrannus, the Fantastic Four on planet X (it looks glorious on the large size thick paper), Spider-man in two Steve Ditko classics, Conan by Barry Windsor Smith, and much more. This is what comics are about!

The Absolute Edition of Top 10, probably Alan Moore's finest hour with superhero comics (with equally estimable art by Gene Ha & Zander Cannon, too). Should be here by week's end.
