Just sorted through roughly 300 Post-Crisis Superman books I picked up for an average of 50 cents a piece at two different sales over the past month! Gearing up to get some Superman reviewing done!

Got these in the mail today. I'm chipping away at my JLA collection. Two are doubles but the price was right for the entire package. That JLA #136 is the first issue of Justice League that I ever bought. It’s probably among the first ten issues of DC comics that I bought from the newsstand. And I only bought it because the Joker is on the cover. It’s the middle chapter of a three-part JLA/JSA team-up. I didn’t read the other two chapters until 30 or 40 years later. And I didn’t pick up another issue of JLA until the JSA crossover that included the All-Star Squadron.

I have a major soft spot for that particular JLA-JSA team up.

I went to visit my grandson in PA today and stopped at a place called " Comics on the green". Picked these two up in my effort to fill in holes in my Bronze Age JLA run. I felt like I overpaid for the two ( 10.50), but this is the dilemma. Do I get these online and pay postage for each maybe equaling the price I paid the store? The perfect storm is to go to a show and get them and many other books all at once. That's a gamble also because I might not find them and the trip is for nothing. I live in a place ( Staten Island) where every time I go to a show ,I have to pay a toll. Oh well.

Got an issue of Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man, a couple of issues of Amazing Spider-Man, and an issue of Weird Western Tales off of eBay this week. Just chipping away at my 'Wants List'.

Got this today thinking it would complete the entire 68 issue Supreme run. Turns out it's a 69 issue run. I forgot there was an 0 issue.

So when are you starting the review thread? I remember liking Majestic alot more than Supreme as far as Superman analogues go, but to be fair I haven't read much of it. I read the Twelve yesterday... Marvel's answer to JSA it is not. It's also really dark and depressing, but pretty decent none the less. I would definitely read more about the Phantom Reporter and the Golden Age Black Widow (by far the most interesting characters) Rockman ACTUALLY finding an undergound kingdom and maybe have a big war with the Mole people could also be fun.

I love The Twelve! I was buying it as it came out and have re-read it at least twice since then. J. Michael Straczynski's script and characterisation is excellent, giving each member of the group a very distinctive personality, and Chris Weston's art is a great fit for a story about Golden Age heroes in the modern world. I really would've liked to have seen a continuation of the series -- or at least the continuing adventures of the Phantom Reporter and the Golden Age Black Widow.

Most notable for being one of the series that Straczynski actually finished. I enjoyed it too!

I read that and wrote up a brief review of it, let me see (*searching threads*), almost five years ago?! Crap, time flies, so much so that my review is posted on the modern comics section, because the tail end of the series and the publication of the tpb still fell into the 10-year rule we use here. The short version of my own impressions is that the series started off really well but kind of fizzled toward the ending. One of the things I didn't like about the ending was the turn taken by the Black Widow and romantic relationship she strikes up with the Phantom Reporter, even though it was clearly indicated through most of the first part of the series that she was not into dudes. And I thought Rockman was the most interesting character and wish more had been done with him.

I too like Majestic more than Moore's Supreme. I enjoyed it as well but his run falls into the same trope writing. Majestic had a fun Silver Age Superman feel to it, like moving planets in one issue and then going on a date with a robot the next. Its one of Joe Casey's better written (well, co-written) series. But it's Abnett and Lanning's take on Majestic, when he took over Superman and then into the new reboot of the series is so freaking fantastic.

agreed! I'm definitely a fan of Abnett and Lanning... too bad they broke up.

I agree it did fizzle a bit... I was hoping the Electro thing was different.. As far as Claire goes, it felt like the layoff before the last couple issues the plan got changed... that's where the relationship turns. I would be happy to chalk it up the just an ongoing relationship if not for the scene early in the series where it's very clear Claire has a girlfriend, and there's just no explanation there. Maybe it just needed a happy ending after all the down stuff?
