Written by Stan Lee? For sure hehe well it's mostly because Moebius is the artist : ) I guess that means Stan Lee didn’t write it.

Flea mkt yesterday had boxes and boxes and more boxes of dollar comics, but I only ended up getting these seven: Reading two of the Eclipse Monthlys, I was reminded how much people were feeling their way in the 80s. The stories still have a "fannish" feel, but heartfelt. Rogers' "A Foozle" is the type of fantasy stuff i don;t normally gravitate to, but nicely done. Boyers' "Masked Man" is still a real good read--could've been great with a strong inker. I picked up the SPIES book on the strength of the cover and seeing Evans while leafing through. When I got home, surprised to see Kirby (and Ayers?) in there.
I have the full short run of Eclipse monthly (ad the Eclipse magazine which was around the same time, but there is a stark difference in tone between he stories in each). I see a Mister X in there as well; I'm still trying to fill holes in for that character (he migrated a bit, with 2 series at Vortex, then on to Caliber then on to Dark Horse). Great haul overall. I love finding that kind of stuff in dollar bins. -M

No doubt, but I also think Lee did a better job than what he used to. By this time, he had long relinquished writing chores at Marvel, and he just chose to participate in this project because he saw it for what it was: a unique opportunity. He gave it everything he had.
Edit: tried to resist, but I can't help being provocative. The opposite could also be said. I've read (or tried to) most of Moebius' work, and I always came away with the impression he had been smoking, while imagining what he was going to draw. At least, here, there's a story, even if not a great one.
I totally understand what you mean. If you'd like more realistic Moebius, you should check the classic Blueberry. Jean Giraud wasn't Moebius. Of course Blueberry had a story, but the drawing wasn't nearly as beautiful.

I'm not sure I understand what this is??? It was a 1948 French "illustrated" children's book adaptation of Poe's "Arthur Gordon Pym".
The art style was incredibly simplistic and crude... yet, I had a lot of fun coloring it!
Someone at another board compared the art style to Gahan Wilson's. Funny enough, HE did a whole book of Poe poems in the early 90s.

Dang it-- I've been looking for even a half-way decent copy of "World Around Us- Spies" for about 5 years now. I've run across only two copies during that time, and both had the cover detached/damaged. Not looking for a high-grade copy, but it would be nice to have one that is at least complete and somewhat solid.
Nice find! Also still working on completing my Mr. X Vortex series myself.

This is apparently the norm for these books. It's hard to find books in this series in decent shape-- maybe because they were frequently used by school systems.

MCS/Lonestar order arrived today, the usual mish-mash of this and that for me. A couple of series finally completed this time around, including The Chilling Adventures in Sorcery/Red Circle Sorcery run (issue #6 with a great Gray Morrow cover), and the Sinister House of Secret Love/Secrets of Sinister House run (coincidentally, also issue #6- with a Kaluta cover)-- both now complete. Also knocked out two more Enemy Ace issues of Star Spangled War Stories, as well as the Bill Ward one-shot and the first printing of The Complete Wraith TPB. And I finally picked up the last 48/52-page Flash issue that I needed, as well as the somewhat hard-to-find Captain Atom pseudo-key issue #42. The icing on the cake is the Kitchen Sink Spirit reprint. Nothing earth-shattering here, just a bunch of wants checked off my list. That is my favorite Spirt cover (and favorite red dress cover, the one that started the whole shebang) and issue 22 of the Quality run with that cover is one of my grail's. -M

Might be my favourite series ever.

I just ordered Batman Family #7.
I keep looking at Detective Comics #261 because it’s the first appearance of Dr Double X, and he’s one of my favorite B or C (Or Z!) villains from the Jack Schiff years. I’ve never read Detective #261. But it’s kind of expensive!
I looked to see if it’s been reprinted and ... yes! It has! Batman Family #7! Which also has Robin and Batgirl fighting Sports-Master and the original Huntress!
This is something I must have!

Emotional investment aside, do you think Giraud had beauty as a goal when drawing that series?

I would love to see nice collections of Masked Man, and Wordsmith. Two of my favorite series of the 80's.
