That's taking it a little too far, I think. Tony Isabella has written about working with Kanigher, and Tony's impression was that Kanigher didn't respect people who read nothing but superhero comics. When he found that Tony was capable of discussing other topics too, their relationship went smoothly.
Bob just couldn't relate to the readers of Wonder Woman.

It could possibly sour you on life. Just guessing, I haven't read it myself. Kanigher wrote some excellent war comics, and some good romance comics, but my limited experience with his Wonder Woman stories has been... not good. Kanigher had zero respect for the readers of Wonder Woman. Oh good. Should've gone with Batgirl.

Well, you can try enjoying the batshit-crazy stuff that Kanigher threw into the WW stories. When you don't feel any obligation to make sense, you end up with some wild ideas. And then there's the pervasive sexism - try to find a story that doesn't have something that we today would consider offensive.

No sexism yet, but there are Asians (referred to as Orientals, of course) talking of "Amelicans" and "peanut butter and jerry". Oh and Diana got shot in the head!

Couldn't finish the first story. Steve asking Diana to act as a stand-in for Wonder Woman and do some smoochin' was a bit much.

That wasn't just Wonder Woman comics, though, it was pretty prevelant throughout the industry... you can find that bad accent as well as visual stereotypes of both Japaneses and Germans in every Captain America and Namor comic... they were the 'bad guys' at the time, just like comics from the 70s and 80s have all Russians as drunk and wearing fur coats.

I haven't read as much from this time, but I was under the impression the anti-Asian racism and Nazi stuff was more '40s/'50s than mid-late '60s.

It wasn't as blatant in the 60s but it was still there.

One of the advantages of being a guest on creator alley is you get to preview what vendors have and what will be in the charity auction before the doors open to the public! MY plan going in was to hunt down some cheap trades and maybe get a sketch cover done, but a quick survey of the room changed my mind-several dealers with boxes upon boxes of $2 and $3 Silver and Bronze books, some interesting wall books, and more dealers with tons of 4/$1 boxes. So I quickly decided to do some back issue hunting. So first I hit a dealer I knew indirectly from mutual acquaintances, whom I met in person for the first time last night at the roast. He was one of those with the $2 and $3 Silver/Bronze boxes. First book in he first box I looked at was Astonishing Tales #1 and a run of the early issues, I snagged 1-8 (except for #7 which I already had) for $3 each... again the editor on photobucket is still being buggy I can rotate the images there bt not save the change, so some pics may be upside down One of our mutual acquaintances was hunting through the boxes at the same time-the guy I bought Conan #1 from at Gem City last spring, and he pointed out some Conans in the $2 bin, I rifled through and found several I needed, and snagged #15-20 for $2 each. He then pointed out a #23 (1st Red Sonja in cameo) when I mentioned I was looking for it, it was in nice shape and priced at $20, but he said he would take $15 for it, so I grabbed it and added it to my Conan pile.... continued...

That was the pre-show purchases, and ran up to creator's alley to man the Studio table for a while, but ended up commissioning a local artist I know to do a Wonder Woman sketch on one of the blank sketch covers I had.... not bad for $15 -M

Didn't buy anything else until I went tot he charity auction. Here I picked up another piece by Brian he drew for the auction- Red Sonja vs. Wonder Woman page for $10 The auction wasn't that well attended, so a lot of things went cheap or weren't getting bid on, so since it was a charity auction I bid on a few things of only passing interest including this.... the collectible binder and card set including chase cards of Sin City feturing a ton of Miller art... got it for only $4... continued...

I haven't read as much from this time, but I was under the impression the anti-Asian racism and Nazi stuff was more '40s/'50s than mid-late '60s. I think the guys that were still around from the '40s and '50s (like Kanigher) were still writing it, even if it was toned down a bit. I was in NYC for work today, and visited the Midtown near Grand Central Station... I was pretty disappointed... no back issues to speak of before 2000 (other than the wall comics, which were decent, but not great), and only 2 longboxes of .50 bins that was real garbage. LOTS of variant covers and such, though. I did pick up a couple trades (which shall remain nameless in case my daughter reads this thread), but overall for one of the premier stores out there I though it was a poor showing.
