I have a question- do the comic companies pay extra for a cover that is painted? It seems that Goldkey cornered the market on painted covers.

I have a question- do the comic companies pay extra for a cover that is painted? It seems that Goldkey cornered the market on painted covers. I think because of the book/magazine publishing Dell did, they had the expertise and equipment for full-color separations.

Now that I think of it, the artists probably got paid what a colorist would have gotten. Seems like a lot more work, though.

Exactly. Western Publishing had been in the children's book publishing game for many years before they entered the comics arena.
