You'd thought the politics thread being closed would have stopped the flow of people leaving. As some did leave because of it or post very sparsely. One aside personally for myself, but otherwise I don't get the rage quit mentality of the internet. You have all the time in the world to form a post and iron out your thoughts and let the knee jerk reaction play out before posting. But I'm super laid back in 95% of life. Also welcome back Ms Jezebel, good to see you again. It's been boring not having anyone to debate about Rob Liefield with. ;-) Edit: Also I miss Dan. Great guy. In my former position of moderator here, I can tell you that the number one source of people leaving in a fit of rage was the politics thread. That was a major reason that thread was closed. |

Any group is going to see attrition. The bigger problem IMHO is the lack of influx. New blood brings new perspectives, or at least to talk again about the things we like to talk about but already said to each other. "Classic Comics" is a demographically determined, shrinking hobbyist set, even if we make "Classic" a moving target by including comics ten years old that hadn't even been published when this group first assembled on CBR. Dunno what can be done about that; are there other communities of like-minded folks that would be here if they knew we existed? I don't know where they are.

Started of as Ultimate Jezebel, had quite a few 'reincarnations', some of those 'Deleted' accounts are mine.
Came back because of the pandemic, maybe one last chance for a fling....

I don't so much mind people's political views provided that they're good, decent people deep down. I felt the same way with people that I used to go to church with and those I currently work with.
For the record, you seem fairly nice from what I've gathered if that's any comfort
And yeah, I used to only post when I was reading comics. I would read so much at one time that I would just get burnt out (bit of a multimedia junkie) and not show up for months on end. Never really considered being a part of the forum beyond that until I decided to stick my foot in the waters of "community discussion" a while back

I'm friends with Dan Bailey on Facebook and still interact with him there. He just has other interests than comics at this point.
Glad to hear that - IIRC Dan was having some health problems around the time he left, and when he disappeared...

Speaking as someone who was around at the beginning and fairly active (if not memorable) my leaving was a combination of things. My interest tend to shift, and I have pretty poor impulse control. Around the time I orginally left, there were a few people irking me and my interests were shifting away from classic American comics, so I just left. I deleted said account to avoid coming back just to argue.

A lot of the time when folks storm off, the issue was less the person/discussion upsetting them in the moment and more something going on in their own life. So we keep the door open, we hope we will see our missing friends again, and we do our very best to make this a welcoming community that is respectful and safe for all members. That's really all we can do.
