robot1aThat actually made me think of adding that Predator comic to the want list and I'm not a huge predator fan by any means. It’s a good comic to read on a hot day.

And the Best Picture Oscar goes to beccabear67 with 7 votes. Best actor in a supporting role is Prince Hal, with 5 votes. Third billing goes to kirby101, with 4 votes. The ensemble dark horse is Farrar, with 2 votes. And a cast of thousands, including codystarbuck, adamwarlock2099, Michael, Phil Maurice, brianf, MDG, robot1a, and one vote apiece! (And can I just say that I am shocked at the lack of appreciation for the modern classic that is Labyrinth?! )

Congratulations becca! This win is a surprise to me. But surprising wins is a big part of the fun.
And thanks for the votes my post got.

Congrats beccabear! And thanks for the votes kirby101 and Prince Hal -- you know I love those painted covers, glad you do too Samson And Delilah (1950) ... The art is pretty obviously Wood/Orlando/Harrison studio, I've always wondered if it was based on a still from the film. My guess is that the erstwhile Hedwig Kiesler is poised to chop off Sammy's excess locks? Since you asked: It was a recreation of the movie poster, with slight modifications. I'd love to know who the poster artist was, but the comic's cover is by Lee Ames (through the Iger shop) for Victor Fox. Ames talked about this cover in Alter Ego #28; he said that Fox wanted a cover that was very suggestive (imagine that!). And per Ames, Delilah's folded leg is supposed to be resemble "a beautiful, lovely, tight behind." Actually this comic is not a strict adaptation of that particular movie; it's more of a general retelling of the story. But obviously the comic was intended to cash in on the movie; DeMille's S&D had its US premiere in late Dec 1949 and this comic hit the stands in Feb. 1950 (according to Mike's). Anyway, if anyone gets around to watching the movie, be on the lookout for Jessica Fletcher... ...and Superman !

Wow, Lee Ames... not a lot of comics art examples to compare to but he certainly had a lot of skill going by the 1953 Kit Carson pages I saw. All this time I thought was probably Joe Orlando, and those guys were doing a lot of work for Fox 1949-50 (I also had the Star Presentations with Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde, but the inking looks mostly Harrison). Apologies for that.
Jessica Fletcher, she sure looks like a young...

Ah, so the series jumped publishers-- from Dabel to Dynamite. Good to know, I gotta put these on my list. Thanks!
This is what the Trade looks like...it's also rare. The grey streaks on the cover are part of the cover design, not flaws.

Thanks for the info. After doing some online searching, it looks like the trade is definitely the way to go on this series. The individual books are few and far between, and people are currently asking stupid money for 'em.
