I voted for Gigantor. I don't remember much about the cartoon but according to my mother I would run around the house singing the theme song.

I never really got the whole giant robot genre, so I voted other. My favourite giant robot is K-1 from the Doctor Who serial "Robot": Tom Baker's first story as the Doctor.

Not really a fan of the giant robot shtick, in comics or on TV/film. I voted for Iron Giant and Frankenstein Jr., the former because I thought it was a great movie with tons of heart, the latter out of pure childhood nostalgia. But Gigantor? Voltron? The Transformers? I'll pass, thanks.

Mostly missed the giant robot thing, but I loved The Iron Giant
MechaGodzilla was cool (didn't see that rerun until a few months ago)
LOVE Robotech
Had Raydeen of the Shogun Warriors as a kid
and Micronauts super fan loved Biotron

One more thing, I'm a huge fan of Robots and the whole nine yards ... I have seen pretty much all the robots on that list and then some because I was fascinated by them. Some of you missed the whole scene ... but not me because they were quite accessible to me due to the fact they were on when I'm at home. I just loved them all and MechaGodzilla tops them all. When, you see this on a 60 foot Theatre Screen it's blows you away! Note: I seen every robot on that list except Mazinger Z

I don't know who most of these are. However, I definitely vote for the female robot from Tranzor Z who shot her boobs as missiles.

The Giant Mecha is a whole tradition in and of itself within Anime with many variations. Each Mecha taking on it's own unique styling and characteristics based on the person commanding it. And like Voltron and others sometimes it takes a whole team of pilots to manage the robot. sometimes the Mecha are para-military, other times sentient, some protectors, some magical, some mentally connected with their pilots, some having special capabilities only being driven by children or female, some political machinations, some as villainous opponents and so forth and so on. The one consistent aspect of them being that there is something very cool about seeing GIANT ROBOTS fighting. Whether it is against one another or Kaiju monsters or as a team or however they are depicted as super sized weapons of destruction provides a thrill to many.

Even Alan Moore created one: Big Brother. It was part of his brief revamp of YoungBlood.

I suspect I'd have loved Shogun warriors as a kid, but it's a bit before my time. Transformers (and GI Joe, for that matter) I have alot of childhood nostalgia for.. I love those cartoons as a kid (before I knew what real anime was). Watched lots of Voltron too.. that gets points off for the crappy netflix remake though (it started with such potential, but I digress).
As an adult, I've really enjoyed Robotech (I have vague memories of catching it now and then as a kid, too), but my absolute favorite giant robot is Evangelion. Sure, the ending of the anime is god-awful, but the design of those giant robots is top notch.

This. I voted for those same two along with Mechagodzilla because Godzilla movies were a Saturday afternoon staple. I honestly haven't heard of well over half that list.

Oh I can believe that, which is why I went with what I figured would be more well known giant robots/shows people might be able to recognize. If i included all the anime the list of potentially unrecognized would have been even longer. Aquarion, Burst Angel, Code Geass, Escaflowne, Eureka Seven, Fafner, Gargantia, Getter Robo, Gravion, Godannar, Gungrave, Gun X Sword, Heroic Age, Kiddy Grade, Linebarrels of Iron, Ninja Sensei Tobikage, MArtian Succesor Nadisco, Neon Genesis Evangion, Rah Xephon, Saber Rider, Shattered Angels, Strain and Vanguard all have some pretty spectacular Giant Robo's and only a small sample of series. But how many would recognize them or vote for them? Likely not too many except for us hardcore anime geeks.

I was the lone lunatic who chose Johnny Socko (and his Giant Robot). Other robots on the list are vastly superior, but Johnny Socko followed Ultra Man on the local channel in the little Michigan town I was living in in '74/'75 when I was 6-7 and I was utterly, unapologetically captivated. I sought out some bootleg VHS tapes of the show back in the 90s and treasure them as well. YMMV. I voted for that too as it is the one I remember watching most (of the ones on the list) as a kid.
I also watched UltraMan and the Giant Robots (?) (I keep forgetting the real name of it... in the U.S. it had Goldar, Silvar, etc.)
