100 degrees here in Phoenix today. Supposed to climb all week with 108 by Saturday. Instead of saying Winter is coming....instead say Summer is staying, and staying and staying...

Today was the first day I wore a jacket and hat to work since last spring. The temperature will get to the 80s but overnight it was close to 50.

Another 90+ degree, high humidity day in Western Pennsylvania today, with the "real feel" getting well over 100 again.
As with yesterday, which I reported in the Meanwhile thread, my girls have early dismissals from school again today due to the unbearable heat and no AC in the school buildings.
Luckily it looks like the temps break in the next day or two, with the high around here only hitting 65 on Saturday; maybe autumn really is on its way after all.

Today is the third day in a row that the high temperature will be below 70 degrees Fahrenheit. The last time we had three days in a row below 70 was May 29-31.
My mother and brother are in Southside Virginia getting ready for the hurricane. Anyone else dealing with Hurricane Florence?

My mother and brother are in Southside Virginia getting ready for the hurricane. Anyone else dealing with Hurricane Florence? I just got an email from a friend in who lived in Richmond Virginia -- moved to Portland Maine to be with his wife family and planning on being there for a month for safety and the worst part that potentially half of the state of South Carolina and possibly North Carolina should be out power for a week or two. In some area storm surge could be as high as 7 feet or more. I've been watching the Weather Channel ... it's nasty back there.

161,000 without power in the Carolinas right now and continues to grow and things aren't looking good for now. My heart goes out to the folks caught up in this disaster. Watching the news footage this morning before work it is just devastating. Some of the scenes look like live action movie sequences for adapting the comic book Aquaman Sub Diego story-line. Flood levels over car tops and nearly up to the 1st floor level in places and the havoc is only just starting. Just plain scary.

To anyone in the storm's path, please stay safe and take any necessary precautions!

I was in Ocean City, MD on Labor Day weekend in 2016 when Hurricane Hermine hit town and it wasn't pleasant at all, but Florence is making that look like an April shower.

Last month, my wife and I made our bi-annual vacation trip to Atlantic Beach on the NC coast and seeing the pics/video of the devastation that area has suffered so far is shocking.
We live up near up the NC/Virginia border. Florence's turn toward the southwest means my area won't be as hard hit as was first thought earlier this week. Forecasters believe we will receive around 4-5 inches of rain over this weekend with wind gusts up to around 35, maybe 40 mph (the wind has already picked up this morning). Raleigh is already starting to feel the effects of tropical storm winds with rain soon to follow and that's not even accounting for the possible storm surge flow of water feeding upward from the coast through tributaries of rivers like the Neuse and Tar rivers. Flying debris in flooded areas of Wilmington as Florence made landfall is very scary.

Speak and ye shall receive.
15 minutes or so after I made the last post in this thread, the large pine tree in my front yard snapped at the base of it's trunk and was blown forward by the wind over my driveway, covering my car and my son's car, narrowly missing the house.
Amazingly, the tree trunk landed at a perfect angle, missing the back end of both cars. With help from family, friends, and a few neighbors, spent the day removing the tree. The tree limbs caused some minor damage to both cars (no windows were busted) and the top of the tree brushed across the rain gutters at the front of the house. The collapse was precipitated by the trunk of the tree being rotted out by black ants even though the tree itself previously showed no outward signs of such a condition.
All in all, very lucky, no one was hurt, no power lines damaged (as would have happened had the tree fallen in the other direction), and sparse damage seemingly incurred.

Man, this is some story and glad everything is okay, String ... I had similar stories like this at my Parents place 30 years ago during a major windstorm that a fir tree fell in the right direction landing on the property line between my parents place and his neighbor on his left. It's avoided everything including power and the whole nine yards. Thanks for sharing it.

Weather insanity continues here in Phoenix. Over the weekend it was anywhere from 100-105. Sunday afternoon temperature dropped into the low 90's and during the night light steady drizzling rain began and yay we have wetness! Yesterday was sticky in the high 90's and dry and then overnight steady drizzling rain continuing through my drive into work. Reports saying rain for tomorrow and drops into the high 80's but then more rain for weekend and dropping into the mid 70's. following week predicts return to high 80's and then into mid 90's. Thank you Tropical Rainstorm Rosa for the confusion, flu and pneumonia. Sheesh is Momma Nature in flux this year or what?!?
