When I sold my comic collection a few years back, there were some boxes that were not included in the transaction.Boxes hidden deep in my closet for decades unopened. Two boxes were filled with underground comics. Now this here's a family website. Since I can't enbed a consent form affirming you are 21 years of age, I can't reproduce any of the covers (Of course you can google it yourself). For the most part, I can't go into detailed review of most issues. But I can give you a rundown of what I have, any interesting contributors within the issues, and anything that sticks out when I peruse them. I'm no expert about the undergroud scene and would encourage any comments from CCF land. There's no question that underground comix had an important influence on the history of the medium-not just for the content and artists involved but also as the true beginning of the direct sales method of distribution. This will take a bunch of posts to get through and will be done in alphabetical order.
Adults Only-3 issues with the first from 1979.#2 is from 1985 and #3 from 1987.Inkwell Inc published the first 2 and Last Gasp the finale. These are just sex short stories. Some decent art signed by Larry Fuller and Wiley Sade.
All Duck-1 issue from 1972.Artists Jay Kinney,Peter Bramley and Ned Sonntag. Stories about Smacky Duck and Famous Ducks in American History.Looks good
Anarchy Comics-#2 from 1979 and #4 from 1987.Published by Last Gasp.Stories by Steve Stiles,Paul Mavrides,Jay Kinney and Spain.Political humour,anti-capitalist,post punk. Wish I had the missing issues
Anomaly-#4 from 1972. Richard Corbin cover and 13 page story.Written by Jan Strnad. The other artist is Robert Kline (not the comedian).
Barbarian Comics-#2 from 1973 and #3 from 1974.Some Corbin work along with W.A.Meugniot (The DNAgents),Ron Harris and John Williams.Published by Bob Sidebottom. All Conan lookalikes with/without loincloth
Barbarian Women Comics-#1 from 1975 and #2 from 1977.Same company as above.Trina robbins contributes an 8 page story.Ron Harris is included.Nestor Redondo does a nice cover for #1.#2 has a 4 page color insert by S. Clay Wilson. One of these women has a machine gun

I (of course!) have all the Anarchy issues, having bought the first 3 from (IIRC) a punk-centric record shop in Tempe in the early '80s & then #4 (which I hadn't even known existed) when I stumbled across it in a bookstore in Memphis about a decade later. FWIW, the issues, along with some previously unpublished material, were collected not that long ago in TPB.

I own Anomaly, Barbarian Comics, and Barbarian Women Comics. I'm a Richard Corben fan and I'm trying to find all of his underground stuff. That was one of the first back issues I bought of his almost 20 years ago. The same with Barbarian Comics. The Barbarian Women comics is interesting as I enjoy the art style of Barney Steel (who did Armageddon Comics); overall the 2 issues aren't that bad.

Besides full runs of Cherry Poptart and Omaha: The Cat Dancer (Including all anthology appearances, cameos in other titles, and special series for both characters, excluding the erotic comic magazine that Omaha continued in), I was able to find the following quickly on my shelves. Weirdo #1-5, 7-9, 15-17, 19, 22 Arcade #1-7 Bizarre Sex #5, 6, 9 American Splendor #12 Dirty Plotte #1 Rip In Time #1, 2 Den #2, 8 Home Grown Funnies Snarf #6, 10, 12, 15 Death Rattle #2 Anomaly 4 Hot Stuf' #5, 6 Fantagor #1 Skull Comics #2 Wimmen's Comics #2 Slow Death #2, 4 Barbarian Comics #1, 2 Cud #1 All New Underground Comix #2 One Fisted Tales #3, 8 Morty The Dog Motor City Comics #1 Truckin' #1, 2 Greaser Comics #1 (By Leonardo DiCaprio's dad) Bakersfield Kounty Komics #1
And some borderline stuff. 70's and 80's comics in a very similar vein to the rest, sometimes with the same creators, especially Corben. I also thought I had a copy of Horny Biker Sluts but I must have gotten rid of it along with Cocaine Comix a while back. Also a handful of Eros comics I keep in the same pile as my undergrounds, and the new Corben stuff.
More than I thought, counting the Cherry and Omaha it comes out to about 110 undergrounds total, or a little more, if you consider Omaha underground. Sometimes it gets a little sketchy, but considering the character debuted in an underground I always figured it counts.

Back we go and maybe I can sneak in a cover or two. For instance The Barn Of Fear-Underground contributors loved the old EC comics and there were plenty of homages. This came out in 1977 with an Alfredo Alcala cover. An excellent book, better than any DC or Warren book appearing at this time. Contents include Lets Play Chicken by Doug Moench and Dave Hunt-horror on a chicken farm Toro Toro-Alfredo Alcala's bullfighting yarn Cold Turkey-Scott Shaw-an alcoholic turkey trying to kick the habit The Grimey Slimey Monster of Rottenberry Swamp-Larry Todd That Damn Dog-Tom Sutton This is definitely a hidden treasure Best Buy Comics-1979 by Robert Crumb. Gathers up many short strips Crumb produced between 1977-1979. Reprinted in 1988 by Last Gasp with a different cover.Crumb's art is top-notch here and the stories don't veer off into gross or sexist tangents. Maybe thats due to the influence of his partner at that time, Aline Kaminsky Bicentennial Gross-Outs 1976 comic featuring Frankie Rat,Uncle Scam and Dildo Duck. Some nice art and cover from William Stout. Theres a 13 page story called Realityland signed by someone named Wutz Reality thats a gorgeous pastiche of a Disneyland tour with art reminiscent of Bill Elder. Big Apple Comix 1975. A must own for any Marvel Comic fan as Fabulous Flo Steinberg edits her own book. And basically the Marvel Bullpen contributes the whole package. Thats a jam cover by Wally Wood,Larry Hamma and others.Back cover by Ralph Reese.Inside you get The Man Without A City-Stu Schwartzberg & Marie Severin Archie Goodwin tours Times Square Peep Shows My Word-Wally Wood's 3 page parody of his famous EC story The Tube-3 page Al Williamson SF tale starring Roy Thomas Over and Under-5 pages of Neal Adams,Larry Hama & Ralph Reese NYC The Future-Paul Kirchner The Batteries Down-5 page Alan Weiss story Lotsa Yoxx-2 pages of Herb Trimpe inked by Wally Wood The Silent Minority-2 page Mike Ploog yarn of a street wino Token-4 page Herb Trimpe silent fantasy

I had a head shop a block away as a kid, so I used to have quite a few undergrounds. Only ones I still have are a couple of issues of Skull and that Bicentennial Gross-Outs, which I love. The Disneyland take-off was by William Stout, according to this site. comixjoint.com/bicentennialgrossouts.htmlThe sample pages on that site are NSFW, btw.

Going through my box as well as seeing these covers posted is making me want to start collecting undergrounds again. Big Apple Comix has been on my list for a while.

I have about 200 or so undergrounds, if you want to add the Eros Comix stuff, which Fogels is doing these days with their catalog. Full runs of Omaha and Cherry as well. I'm almost complete with Bizarre Sex and almost done with all of Neal Adams' Echo of Futurepast.

Bizarre Sex-Forget about posting any covers from this series. Most of them depict giant sized sex organs attacking a city. I have #1 (1972) 4,5,7,8,9 and 10 (1982) all published by Kitchen Sink. #1 has a Denis Kitchen cover containing stories from Tim Boxell,Daniel Clyne, Don Glassford and someone named Grisley #4 includes Steve Stiles and Howard Cruse #5 has a cool Corbin cover, the 1st Omaha The Cat Dancer by Reed Waller along with Crumb,Cruse,Stiles,Kitchen and Joel Beck #7 adds Dan Steffan to the party and a nicely illustrated 13 page Richard Larson tale #8 has a Crumb cover , and welcomes aboard Michael T. Gilbert and his Vegetable Lover story #9 is a full length Omaha The Cat Dancer tale #10 includes Joost Swarte,Guy Colwell,a Waller Omaha story,John Pound,Rick Geary,Howard Cruse,Stiles,Kitchen and Rex Mason,Boy Transvestite by William Loebs A solid and very entertaining series Bogey Man Comics-1969 an EC inspired horror comic with Jay Lynch, the brain-melting art of Rick Griffin,Jeffrey Hayes , Kim Deitch and J Osbourne. Some fine art here. You gotta wonder what ever happened to some of these artists Brain Fantasy #2-1974 from Last Gasp and a beautiful Corbin cover.Too bad theres an exposed boobie or I'd post it. Larry Todd does a beautiful 7 page story called The Curse Of The Abominable Snowmobile

I think of the undergrounds as the stuff Crumb and Spain and people like that were doing in the 60s and 70s - I don't have any of those. I do have a complete run of Dirty Plotte, if that counts.
Some of the titles mentioned so far in the thread I haven't even heard of until now. I'd like to get those Anarchy Comics, among others.
Funny that Lonestar doesn't have a listing for Barbarian Women or for Brain Fantasy 2, though they do list Barbarian Comics and Brain Fantasy 1.

I used to have a ton of Underground Comix. Growing up a stone's throw away from San Francisco, I would often take a trip to Haight-Ashbury and buy comix in the same store featured in the R. Crumb documentary. The store had nothing but underground comix, and it was a bit of a mind-shattering explosion of the avant-garde. I couldn't tell you the name of the place though, or if it still even exists...as the last time I was there was in the early 90's. Rick Griffin was a favorite of mine, because of his psychedelic style. I airbrushed his Grateful Dead "It's A Beautiful Day" poster in high school art class, and still have a copy of Utopia somewhere around here. My favorite underground is probably Light Comitragies by Greg Irons, which I covered in my now-defunct obscure comic blog here. The artwork is incredible, and worth checking out. I had to get rid of 99% of my underground stuff a while back, because my daughters are getting older and I would hate to see them pick up one of S. Clay Wilson's books, which offended even me at times. Here are some pics of a few of the comix I used to have (NSFW):

Undergrounds are awesome. They're a pretty mixed bag, but when they're on, they're so excellent.
Really surprised we haven't seen more of this stuff collected.
