If you're not looking for high-grade copies, it can be easy to affordably pick up full runs of short-lived DC series of the late-silver-early bronze, like:
Secret Six
Bat Lash
Stalker
The Shadow
Prez
OMAC
Kong
Rima

Something fun and fairly easy to collect...
Marvel Two in One 1-100 plus the annuals.
Lots of great team ups with well known Marvel characters (and some lesser known, Blue Diamond I'm looking at you)
You could even add the 36 Thing solo series issues which started the month after MTIO ended.
The Pegasus Project run in particular is excellent.

The Spectre Volume 3 #0, 1-62 By John Ostrander and Tom Mandrake The Wrath of God! The Spectre is about justice, vengeance, and redemption. While there is plenty of magic and monsters, heroes and villains, the main struggle of the series is one internal to the Spectre, of Jim Corrigan, the hard boiled 1940's cop who serves as the Spectre's host, in conflict with both himself and the Spectre itself. In order to ascend to heaven he must first confront and understand evil. I would be remiss to not mention the amazing art by Tom Mandrake who provided most the art for the series. I've thought about picking this series up a number of times, but I have yet to pull the trigger. I've seen most, if not all, of the issues for $1 or less, so maybe after I get the majority of my post-Crisis Flash run filled in this year, I'll make a play for this. It really is that good. Easily in my top ten runs of all time. I highly recommend it. |

hondobrode Solar wasn't available at the store that go to at the time it was printed and I regretted not having a chance to read some of it and I'm trying to find copies of those issues that you posted and proceed from there. @mechagodzilla I see MyComicShop.com has a copy of the trade collecting all 10 issues for $ 15.95. Not bad considering it was $ 9.95 back in 1994. |

What I remember being the most distinct about the series, even beyond that, was the quirky upbeat secretary. I remember an extended scene of her just sort of singing to herself, I think? It's been a while. Kim Liang- mrp beat me to it. I just noticed. I do remember her saying "jive" though, but it's been forever. A shame she later turned out not to be real... |

Hmmm...I meant the full run, but didn't know it lasted 59 issues when I said that. I would think those non Kirby issues would be very cheap. Back at the time, I had no interest in the series without Kirby but looking at them now on the GCD, it looks like they could be interesting. I read the issue after Kirby departed, and it was utter garbage. Bought and read the final issue just to see if it improved over time, and it felt pretty much the same. Personally, I'd recommend only including the Kirby issues, but it's your dime. I really liked the last few issues...  |

But as I get older, I am more forgiving, and I can enjoy these for the cheap entertainment they were meant to be. Besides, I want to know how Kamandi became the grandson of OMAC. |

This was also the run that made Doug Moench stop talking with me. I had messaged him on facebook about exploring his works, and he was very friendly, answering some questions for me and recommending other works of his that I should check out. Spectre was one of them. Thinking honestly would impress him, I confessed it was the one thing he'd written that I hadn't enjoyed. He never responded to me again. Wow, what a downer of a story.  |

To be fair, I don't know for sure that that's why he stopped replying. He doesn't go on facebook much. Could be he just happened to drop off at that point.
Or maybe I came off obnoxious and didn't realize it. There are some really rude and entitled fans out there. I may have led Doug to believe I was one of them.
Don't judge too quickly is all.
