For pure fun, as well as a means of offering recommendations to others, we're going to try to construct the perfect hypothetical back issue collection.
Much like a time capsule, everyone is allowed to contribute one issue or run. No length or space limitations, but it must be chosen based upon its inherent qualities and not collectibility or historical importance alone. It should also be something that an average collector could foreseeably afford to own.
No trades/collected editions unless that was the original published format for the story or the only practical means of including it in a collection (example: newspaper strips).
So what are you contributing to the ideal back issues collection (and why)?
The collection thus far:
Charley's War volumes 1-12 (Confessor) Daredevil 168-191 (Gene) The Daredevils #1-11 (tingramretro) The Demon (volume 3): #1-58 (brutalis) Fables #1-75 (The Captain) Green Arrow (Mike Grell) #1-50, and The Longbow Hunters (Randle-El) Hitman #1-60 (icctrombone) Iron Man #116-157, #216-250 (wildfire2099) JLA (1997) 1-125, and 1,000,000 (Juggernaut) Jonah Hex Vol 2 # 1-70 (Ish Kabibble) Kull the Conqueror #1-10, and Monsters On the Prowl #16 (Cei-U!) Legion of Super-Heroes #285 -319, and Baxter Edition #1 -60 (pakehafulla) Marvel Fanfare #1-60 (Bronze Age Brian) Marvel Two in One #1-100, annuals, Thing #1-36 (Bronze age andy) Nightstalkers and Blade the Bounty Hunter (urrutiap) Punisher MAX #1-60 (Warmonger) Sandman 1-75 + Special (Slam_Bradley) Sandman Mystery Theater #1-70, plus annual and one-shot (Crimebuster) Silver Surfer (1968) 1-18 (DubipR) Solar Man of the Atom (Valiant) #1-10 (hondobrode) The Spectre (vol 3) #0, 1-62 (Theta Sigma) Starman #0-81, plus annual, special, giant size, etc; and the Shade mini-series (codystarbuck) Strange Tales #110-146 (mrp) Strangers in Paradise (vol 1) #1-3, (vol 2) #1-13, (vol 3) #1-90 (bor) Suicide Squad (Vol. 1) 1-66 & Annual 1 (Cheswick) Thor #140- 502 (String) Watchmen 1-12 (RAZORMAID)

Hitman 1-60. 1996-2001 DC Comics
What starts out as a silly superhero for the DC event " Bloodlines" is given a serious/Humorous series about a hired killer and his world on the underside of Gotham. It is affordable and has a finite ending.

Fables, issues #1 to 75
While Fables ran for 150 issues, the first 75 issues tell a complete story and are by far the best part of the series. This run introduces the main characters and sets up the main plot, that being the war between the Adversary and the other Fables, both in the "real" world and in the fairytale world, as it were. This is absolute masterful storytelling and a true credit to literature, not just comics.

Daredevil 168-191
Frank Miller's time as writer and artist on this series was instrumental in paving the way for a more "grounded" approach to superhero comics that many have imitated, but never duplicated. What gets lost in the discussion of these issues, however, is that they're very rarely "dark." There's a lot of humor in these books, and it almost always works.

Punisher MAX #1-60
Garth Ennis puts together the greatest pure vigilante comic in history IMO.
Very violent, very nihilistic and with some dark humor sprinkled in.
I've recommended the series to a couple of people in the past who couldn't care less about the Punisher, but every one of them had glowing praise for this run.

It's a totally different vibe.

Sandman 1-75 + Special.
Neil Gaiman tells a complete story about stories. One of the most important series in comics history it made non-comic people buy comic books and Issue number 19's winning of the World Fantasy Award both showed that comics had come of age and changed the rules so that it couldn't happen again.

Strange Tales #110-146 the Ditko/Lee Dr. Strange run
For my money, the best Silver Age Marvel run from start to finish, with one long story setting the building blocks of the Marvel cosmos and a great character arc as Stephen grows into the role of Master of the Mystic Arts. A mind-blowing roller coaster ride from start to finish.

Starman #0-81, plus annual, special, giant size, etc; and the Shade mini-series. This is one of the finest epics of a man coming to terms with what it means to be a hero and also to take on a family legacy, for the right reason. it pays tribute to the past, while building a future. It is James Robinson at his very best.

All-Star Comics #1-57. Duh. Cei-U! I summon the big ol' pipe dream! It should also be something that an average collector could foreseeably afford to own. Go rest those teeth, pipe dreamer.
