Just venting and moaning for a bit... I've come down with a real stinker of a cold and have almost completely lost my voice (not good for a singer!). I had a really important gig with my band The Kynd tonight in London, supporting a group called Apollo Junction, who have been getting some decent press in this country of late. It was a chance for us to play in front of 250-300 people who'd likely never heard us before and to hopefully win over some new fans and sell some LPs, CDs and T-Shirts. In addition, a good friend of mine, who I've not seen since Christmas, was coming up from Worthing on the south coast to watch us, so I was looking forward to having a few beers with him afterwards. Unfortunately, we've had to cancel the gig because I just can't sing at the moment and because today I'm running a temperature, with sweats and shivering. I've been in bed all day. I feel f*cking wretched and completely p*ssed off that I've been forced to cancel such an important gig. It absolutely sucks! I am not a happy camper right now.
That really stinks. I've been there myself, and it's no fun at all. Fortunately, both of my bands have multiple lead vocalists and players who are multi-instrumentalists, so 90% of the time we can work around a band member being absent for a gig.
Looks like you'll have to take a cue from Bob Geldof (aka "Pink") in the The Wall film, and use your recuperative time productively... Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Terrible timing with the cold and losing your voice, Confessor. Hope something happens soon to make up for the lost opportunity.

Aw, that sucks, but as nothing can be done about it just concentrate on getting better instead of frustrating yourself over that lost opportunity, another will come along.
Some hot coffee and those Jaffa cakes and some Oskner books might come in handy.

Illusions well and truly shattered: My answer to that is Heinz ain't all that and I buy generic, with no discernable taste or color difference. Reminds me of the old Heinz "Anticipation" commercials of the 70s. 1), if you tilt the bottle more vertically, it comes out faster; and 2), if you stick a knife into the bottle, it will start to flow more freely! 3) Even I don't put that much ketchup on a burger!

I was going to say...Heinz, pretending anyone cares what ketchup they get in a restaurant. I don't care what kind I get anywhere, but I really don't care if I'm eating out.

I’m happy with some non-branded, generic stuff. I mean, I rarely buy branded (Kellogg’s) cereals, as the generic ones are just as nice. Orange juice is orange juice, regardless of the brand.
Sure, some branded things are better. I find a Diet Pepsi better than a non-branded cola. But I find most generic things to be fine.

I live in Birmingham, and was about 3 miles north of the old HP Sauce factory. It was knocked down years ago, but the Birmingham Post and Mail has a pic: Here’s another pic, I’m pretty sure that clock isn’t working anymore, which is pretty symbolic of the decline in manufacturing around here:

As a francophone, I derive no little pride from being able to pronounce "Worcestershire" properly. Thank heaven for British colleagues!

As a friend, (sort of) co-worker, and avid fan of The Kynd, I'm angry for you on all three levels. The good news is your music isn't going anywhere, and people who need to hear it will continue to make their way to it regardless of these setbacks. I firmly believe that. If anything, this just buys us more time before you make it too big to be able to hang out here with us anymore.

Hey all, sorry I've been away for a while. We had family in town for nearly two weeks including a trip to see the eclipse in the path of totality, and then the post-company reset and crash. Suffice to say I've been various levels of busy and beat, but things are getting close to as normal as they get around here now. I'm sorry for the recent struggles, all. Confessor I can't even imagine how frustrating that must be for all of the reasons stated. As others have said, nothing to be done about it now but rest up and be ready for the next one.

I've just deleted a post (and several subsequent posts quoting it).
I want to be very clear that, while difference of opinion and respectful discourse is critical to the health of this community, there are certain topics that are not up for discussion; certain intolerent perspectives that will not be entertained here.
One such perspective is that there is a "Homosexuality Crisis". Suggesting that the mere existence of any non-violent, non-hateful group of people constitutes a "crisis" is ignorant, intolerant, hateful and (frankly) disgusting.
The Mod Team will be reaching out to the responsible party after discussing further. For now, some posts have been deleted.
