That's definitely part of the plan.
Cei-U! I summon the not-so-hidden agenda!
Wow. That will be a special treat. We will try to keep @bert under control. Nobody puts Bertie in a corner.

This probably isn't of any use to anyone else but me, but I found a new comic shop today and it was actually pretty amazing! Admittedly my bar is pretty low in terms of my expectations so perhaps you guys wouldn't have been as blown away as I was when the woman working at the shop not only looked up the book I was after but also offered to order it for me when she saw they didn't have it. In just about all my other previous comic book store encounters if I had asked for help if the person had looked it up at all the answer would have just been a no with no other services offered. So, if you're in the south eastern area of Mass and are looking for a good shop try out Laughing Shield comics in North Attleboro.

It's just a small shop and apparently only opened last July so it didn't have a ton of back issues(just one wall full of boxes) but what was there was neat, well organized and easy to look at.

It's always nice to hear about a pleasant comic book store experience.

Completely off the topic of comics, but I'm betting smeoen will have some kind of knowledge on this computer issue.
All of a sudden, I started getting these windows that open when I click on various websites that tell me that "This connection is not private. This website nmay be impersonating such-and-such a website to steal my personal or financial information."
Okay, great, so I'm being protected form bad people.
The problem is that all of these sites are ones that I've used many times before and that are above suspicion, from Wikipedia to the Boston Globe (to which I have an on-line subscription!) to the Patient Gateway at the hospital where I'm going for knee surgery. I've resisted the temptation to just go to these places, at lest the ones I've used in the past, but wonder if I'm being overly cautious. I can use my ipad to see these sites, but of course can't print out from them.
Does anyone have any clue how I can get rid of this gigantic pain in the kiester?
Thanks in advance, smart people!

Technology not doing what it is expected to do is one of the single-most irritating minor nuisances I can think of! What browser are you using? What antivirus? What antimalware? Have you updated or changed anything recently on your computer? Other than these notices, is the computer behaving in an unexpected manner? Have you tried whacking it really hard? (please don't really do this).

I know we had to switch from Google Chrome, using Duck Duck Go, back to safari because I was getting constant messages as windows on my screen from Google (allegedly) asking me to use such-and-such a service to get rid of annoying things like those windows. I use MacBooster fairly reguarly. I will check on these questions further when my wife comes home; she will know more.

Nothing inherently wrong with that, but my ability to be of help is much diminished in that case. It's been several years since I've had one, so I am no longer up to date, but let's try. Did Safari solve the problem? If your browser is telling you that there are problems so PLEASE USE THIS SERVICE TO CLEAN IT it sounds like your browser, a plugin, or even the computer could be infected with something. I'd totally remove the offending browser from the computer, and if you want to use it again do a clean download and install. If you haven't, bookmark everything important and write down your important passwords, and clear all of your browsing history. Cookies, cache, the lot. I don't know what the current antivirus/antimalware situation is on Mac, but could be worth looking into. MalwareBytes is a godsend on Windows, and I don't know if they have an offering on Mac. You could try replacing Chrome with the Brave browser. Built on the same under the hood tech as Chrome but with an added focus on privacy and security. It was started by one of the original founders of Mozilla Firefox. Beyond that, I hope one of our other friendly neighborhood posters is more up to speed on the Apple side of things. Oh, if you really want to solve it, you could dump the Mac in the recycle bin and buy a Windows PC. Kidding.

I've been on Safari... when this problem with Google started, I switched over to it. But I think your suggestion re the cache and the history makes sense. Do I need to wipe my bookmarks as well? I can always copy them and email them to myself. Only have a few.) My wife keeps saying I should get a new one... bought this in 2011, and she thinks we should dump it, as you said. (She has never been wrong, btw. You are in good company.) Wish me luck! And thanks so much.

Prince HalIt could be as simple as an overzealous security setting in Chrome, but computers do tend to get screwy if you don't clear that stuff every so often. You should be able to export your bookmarks instead of emailing them individually, but if it's not many, it might be easier to just email them. Is that 2011 computer still moving at an acceptable pace? I find they get sluggish after a few years. If you're up to it, you could maybe get some more life and better performance out of it by replacing the battery and swapping the hard drive for an SSD with a new installation of the OS. Maybe you should listen to your better half, though. Good luck.

I have a MacBook Pro that's beginning to see it's last days. I think I got it around the time you did , Prince Hal. The last few years I have just restarted it to the factory settings and wiped the computer.

The last few years I have just restarted it to the factory settings and wiped the computer. Thanks, George. You think I should get another Mac? I would first back up everything (Time Machine is brilliant for that) and wipe it clean before reinstalling everything. It might solve a lot of your issues at no cost. When my old iMac died two years ago, I bought the same model off ebay because I so loved its old OS and the geriatric software it could still run. It came fully wiped, and I just cloned my old machine into it using the aforementioned Time machine. I use that 2009 model to this day, and it remains my favourite computer. All of that to say... if you like it, keep it!
