Well, I, for one, hope we get a companion who is just a companion and not supposed to be something extraordinary.
Robot of Sherwood certainly piques my interest. Something combining two of my loves, Doctor Who and Robin Hood?

Karen Gillen will be at Wizard World Austin this year. To be able to afford to take myself and my daughters, I would have to actually sell one of them...
My 11 year old daughter is mad that the new Doctor isn't "hot." She's too young to remember the first 40 years though!

Sit her down and start her off watching "An Unearthly Child". She'll soon develop an appreciation for the rich history of the programme.

I am actually watching the first season with Hartnell on Hulu currently. Made it through Unearthly Child and am currently most of the way through the Daleks. I've seen bits and pieces of the Hartnell and Troughton eras before, and all of Pertwee, Tom Baker and Peter Davison, and then bits and piece sof Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy, but eventually I plan on watching all the classic Who available on Hulu since it's been since high school since I have seen most of it (I had about 15-20 of the storylines when they were release don VHS in the 90s, but that was the last time I watched any classic Who). -M

I was about to say 'what nonsense', but I remember when I was less than 11 and reading the Fantastic Four, Reed and Sue were always my least favourites because they were the serious parents telling Ben and Johnny and Crystal what to do all the time. But maybe she'll grow to like Capaldi's Doctor, just as I quickly got to like Matt Smith's after initially feeling some suspicion of him because he was so young.

Thoughts on the Season 8 premiere "Deep Breath". When Peter Capaldi first comes out of the TARDIS and shushes Strax he is without a doubt The Doctor. He fits the part perfectly. Madam Vastra is still awesome. This episode has me convinced that the Paternoster Gang need their own spin off. If not a TV series then a comic mini series, novel or audio book. Clara's emotional speech to Vastra was pretty good. I think she actually has quite a bit of chemistry with Capaldi in the lunch scene. I liked the scene where Capaldi talks about the familiarity of his face. "Attack eyebrows" I liked that the cyborg's ship was a hot air balloon. Nice nod to "The Next Doctor". Interesting sequel of sorts to "The Girl in the Fireplace". Nice to see them address who gave Clara the phone number of the TARDIS in "The Bells of Saint John". Very touching farewell phone call scene with Matt Smith.

They do star in a novella called Devil in the Smoke, which has also been released as an audio book. And the Paternoster Gang is starring in the current comic strip in Doctor Who Magazine (without the Doctor), presumably to give the strip time to gear up to switch to the 12th Doctor.

I have to think about it a bit, there were parts I liked and parts I disliked. Capaldi is firmly in the parts I liked though and I guess that's the important part for a new Doctor.

I fully loved the new Doctor, I liked that he was equal parts funny, aloof, and mysterious with an under current of dangerous as well. And the new intro? Maybe my favorite yet!

I liked Capaldi's take, but I still like Clara less every episode, and the story was a bit wonky, IMO. A shame, since I do love Madams Vastra and Co.
Hopefully the next couple will be better... I really hope that Cyborg dude doesn't become a recurring villain, he was pretty blah.

I'll cut the episode some slack, because it was regeneration story. But I'm liking what I've seen of what seems to be the new Doctor's personality. No snogging, being very firm that he is not the companion's boyfriend, and no 'time-wimey' nonsense. This all bodes well.

I enjoyed it. Thought they still spent too much time and emphasis on the relationship drama between The Doctor and Clara, but hopefully that's out of the way now and they can get on with the story.
I continue to be completely charmed by Clara: even when the writing lets the character down it doesn't seem to affect my liking for her, unlike, for example, Amy Pond, who I liked at the beginning but grew to detest by the time her run as companion was over.
