Anyone else read the Death of Archie today?
I was shocked to discover that we loyal readers pulling the magazine would have to wait until next week to read it while the casual readers who pulled the comic book sized version were getting part 1 today, so I begged my LCS guy to get me a copy. He swiped it from someone else's folder for me. I couldn't thank him enough.
Anyway, it was beautiful...truly beautiful. Kupperberg gave this one his all. Heck, he even faked us out and made it look like he was going to take a clever but easy way out of the whole situation (see page 9), but no, he kept it real, and it was beautiful.
I'm still shaking just thinking about it.
Anyway, there's still the epilogue left to go -- "One Year Later," next week.

I dropped the title at issue 25, but am looking forward to reading this. Admittedly, I really just wanted the Fiona Staples cover, or I would have waited for the trade... |

I dropped the title at issue 25. You've missed out. This has truly been one of my favorite comic book runs of all time. Easily in the top 10, and likely the top 5. |

I just thought the 18-25 storyline dragged a bit and they'd lost their footing (and I also realized how quickly they were releasing the TPBs).
Interested to see how they pull off his death in both realities though. One thing I like in the series is that some things happen differently, and some things happen exactly the same way.

It was well done. I'm looking forward more to the "One Year Later" aftermath/tribute next week.
It's my understanding that people who had an actual mail subscription through Archie Comics received the double magazine this week. On another forum I frequent, there's at least one reader who got it and has already read the one year later portion.

It stumbled a bit at that point, but it definitely found its way again. But throughout it all, the characters stayed rich, and the outlook continued to shine unsurpassed optimism in the face of real-world despair. Even the bad issues were fantastic, as far as I was concerned. You won't be disappointed with this aspect. |

It's my understanding that people who had an actual mail subscription through Archie Comics received the double magazine this week. On another forum I frequent, there's at least one reader who got it and has already read the one year later portion. I was actually on the computer, about to place an order for a three year subscription, when I saw the news that Archie was going to die. I think I heard the universe laugh that day. |

I won't be able to read it until whenever my next comic order ships. I didn't know they were doing a standard comic sized version either. I hope I'm getting the magazine sized one.

Waiting to get this entire Life With Archie in a collection. I've never been excited about Archie until this and Afterlife and anxiously await to see their revamped Red Circle now Dark Circle superhero line.

I would be trade waiting if the series hadn't been cancelled pretty much right after I started reading it. The series seems short enough and back issues are still easy to find so I'm trying to complete it in floppies. I could do without all the celebrity gossip stuff in it though. I'd say I already own about half the series.

I'd say I already own about half the series. They eventually stop doing the celebrity gossip stuff and start targeting a more adult audience. I found that content tedious too. I definitely prefer the floppies in general, though. Larger pages where the art is showcased better, plus I love the recaps they provide at the front of each story. |

I felt this most strongly during the marriage of Jughead and Ethel, at which point, the new artist depicted both Miss Grundy and a completely healthy Cheryl Blossom present at the festivities. So much for being invested in the series' continuity. |

Not that Fernando Ruiz isn't a solid artist, but Breyfogle was like a magic trick on the series. He was somehow breaking out of Archie's house stye for layouts without going outside Archie's house style for draftsmanship. With absolutely no empirical evidence to prove otherwise, I'm just gonna say I don't see a lot of artists capable of doing that on that level.
