And here I was thinking it was some remake of Nanook of the North!

The thing that comes to mind right now isn't from my teenage years but the very first record I "bought" (probably asked my parents for), when I was 9 years old: Knock Three Times, by Tony Orlando and Dawn.
Which is now stuck on a repeating loop in my brain. Thanks a lot.

I take it that some of these things you listed are things that physically did not hold up well, not just a style that did not hold up well? I have not gone back to watch "Beast Master" since I was little (it was one of my most faves then), but Pink Floyd's The Wall?? I still love that album. I was never a fan of Miami Vice. I loved Trapper Keepers, but the vinyl insides always ripped way before they should have. Cassette tapes sucked. Bad. I don't understand WHY people want to go back to them. Because they really are not a superior sound, and they are the hugest pain ever to fix if they break. I never joined the Swatch craze. I don't find thick jean denim comfortable to wear anywhere else on my body than my lower half.

Time for me to feel out of it: I still love The wall, cassettes, acid washed jeans and even think the beastmaster was hilarious. (Not the producer's intent, probably, but it's still far more watchable than the CGI pap that passes for fantasy nowadays. I mean, those witches were awesome!!!) Haven't watched Miami Vice in decades, but I seem to recall that Edward James Olmos was great in it.
I should have stayed in the '80s. To quote Bryan Adams (yes, I still listen to Bryan Adams!) "those were the best days of my life".

My cassette tapes always wore out so fast and would warp and get stuck in whichever tape player I was using. And that required this: I was so happy when CDs became affordable. I still buy CDs now.

You're correct, cassettes do that... and even when they don't become all tangled, their quality goes down as the tape stretches over time. They were not very sturdy. On the other hand, they allowed one to record music or voice from vinyls, CDs, the radio or from a microphone with just one push of a button. I still have to find a way to do that as easily with any other device, including the admittedly more versatile computer. Playlists are fine, of course, but I have never seen a cassette wiped out because some machine decided it was time to sync itself or because a company somewhere decided that this or that agreement was now void. I also don't have a turntable nor a radio connected to my computer, while cassette players were typically connected to all these devices by default. Yes, I love cassettes... I am ooooooold!!!

Fair enough. I did not think of those things. But, I DID buy an MP3-ONLY album the other day for $15. And it was an awful feeling. Do you know how difficult it was to part with that $15 for an album I will NEVER be able to hold in my hands? For album art I'll not see? And alllll because the album is out of print in other formats. I mean, sure I could have bought an old library copy for more than double that price, but it was not worth it to me. But buying an MP3-only album is not something I am going to get into a habit of doing. I feel it cheapens me.

I know what you mean... It's pretty much the same reaction I have to digital comics!

Casettes are awesome, but more than anything, they are cheap!!! I do all my masters on tape to get the tape natural distorsion and hiss, best sound I can think of. CD's are the worst, because when they break, you can't repair them. I love vinyl and tape hospital! Oh, I hated The Wall with all my soul when I was a teen, but hey, you grow older and wiser, so a few months back, I got invited to a The Wall live show by Pink Floyd's official cover band, packed house, great performance, still god-awefull music... I soooo much prefer the music from the 80ies. I can still stand by all the music I loved from that decade, but then again, I never was into any kind of heavy metal music or Paula abdulisms

Heresy! Van Halen still kicks ass! I saw them with a guy I dated once. I don't really recall the experience.

I haven't worn a tie in years but if I ever do have to wear one there's a fair chance it might be a narrow tie, since I think that's all I have left and I don't mind the way they look.
