I always liked Kajagoogoo better! What?! Wait! You seriously liked Kajagoogoo better than Duran Duran? You're joking, right? Go and play "Too Shy" and "Rio" back to back, or "Big Apple" and "Save A Prayer", and then tell me with a straight face that Kajagoogoo were the superior pop band. Duran Duran were that rarity: a good looking teeny-bopper band that were actually a left-of-centre, art school band in disguise, writing intelligent and finely crafted pop music that had more hooks in it than the Thames estuary. They were also (and probably still are) a great live band too.

I was mostly joking, but at the same time I've a special place in my heart for Kajagoogoo, who are always seen as something of a one hit wonder that came up in Duran Duran's slipstream (Nick Rhodes produced their debut). But even after they had to kick out Limahl, they continued to make some quality synthpop for a little while. Nick Beggs is quite underrated. And their 1983 concert at the Hammersmith Odeon was solid.

I don't dislike Kajagoogoo, actually, and I agree that Nick Beggs is underrated. In fact, I think they were a much better band after Limahl left -- I bought the "Big Apple" and "The Lion's Mouth" singles as a kid! But yeah, they're not of the same caliber as Duran Duran by a long chalk.
