I've been listening to The Scissor Sisters as I've been doing the housework today and just wanted to add them to the "Holy Cow! them's some filthy lyrics right there" theme . It's pure dead filth some of it.
I was especially fond of:
"We can talk about relationships but there's better things to fill your head with..."
And talking about banned the original video shot for this is still banned from UK TV:

^ it gets played in the club on the giant video screens - every Sunday 80's nite (even during covid, on the Twitch stream 80's nite, it always gets played) shocking that it's so infamous, it's really just some boobs. (my other favorite is the extended video for Belouis Some "Imagination". . also has a bit of boobage in there).

That made me think of Duran Duran's uncensored Girls on Film video, it was originally made with the intent of being shown in clubs with video screens....and instead it became a cult fave. It's almost 40 years old and still surprises many of my friends when I show it to them.
Wrestling in mud is also fun....

I'm a little late to the Seuss controversy, but...
"Too Many Daves". If there's any Seuss story that needs to be kept away from children, it's "Too Many Daves". More correctly, perhaps, it needs to be kept out of the hands of dads who aren't prepared for it. When I first read it to my daughter, I actually thought that somebody had snuck in a gag copy of the book into the bookstore where I bought. I stood gaping in disbelief at the words that my little girl just heard coming out of my mouth. I've never said anything so graphic before in my life. I don't remember which Seuss book the story is in, but be wary of this Seuss grenade.

Goes without saying that Berlin's "Sex" was banned on MTV and radio, for obvious reasons.
(WARNING: NSFW, plus a dude who is wearing more make-up than Terri Nunn....ahhhhh, the 80s!)

Prodigy's SMBU video also got its share of protests from the usual whiners out there...I liked it, had a bit of kindred spirit there...
There, I change my pitch up....

(WARNING: NSFW, plus a dude who is wearing more make-up than Terri Nunn....ahhhhh, the 80s!) that's John, and he's back with the band (after most of the original members rejoined in 2018 for a pretty good album).
after decades of being a huge fan - even seeing the B52's/OMD/Berlin anniversary shows in 2019 JUST for Berlin? I don't support them any longer - Terri used the band name and played a White House Christmas party in 2020.
that it angered many of her LGBTQ fans (myself included) that she basically disrespected us by performing? hey, her choice to do it for the money is sad, but her choice. - the cincher was that it was almost a completely maskless event. . and there's footage of her walking thru the maskless crowd - while belting out "Take my Breath Away"
which would be hysterical, if it weren't so pathetic.

It's pure dead filth some of it. That's one of things that I loved about the Scissor Sisters. It was classic subversive pop (which is always the best kind). Their lyrics dealt with the seedy, nighttime under-belly of the city, but were wrapped in sugar sweet pop melodies*. Hell, even the band's name was a lesbian sex position! I'm willing to bet that the vast majority of people who liked their music had no idea how debauched some of their lyrics were. Which is, as I say, brilliant. *= Their debut album, in particular, plays like a Greatest Hits album, insofar as every song on it is so insanely catchy and utterly pop-tastic that it could've been a hit single.

Does anyone else remember "They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa!" by Napoleon XIV? Came out in the summer of '66. Raced into the Top Five and plummeted just as quickly, but this one dropped even faster than most novelty songs because it was dropped from playlists all over the country, even in NYC. www.songfacts.com/image/napoleon-xiv/theyre-coming-to-take-me-away-ha-haaaI think it may have been banned in Britain, too. These ads are what introduced me to a lot of that and later Dr Demento tapes gave me the recordings, in college....

Wow, A Clockwork Orange is 50 years old this year, and one of those dystopian crime films I never get tired of.
It came on the telly last night and I curled up on the couch to watch it. Even when you turn down the volume you can still hear Chief Guard Barnes braying while you're in the kitchen warming up some tea.
There, we can destroy what we have written, but we cannot unwrite it.
