During the day I listen to a 70's music app and the more I hear " Brand New Key" by Melanie, the more I'm convinced it's a dirty song. There I said it. After looking at the lyrics (I was unfamiliar with the song), I have no doubt there's a subtextual double entendre going on in that song if not outright messages to make you infer a more sexual connotation to the lyrics. But if you want a "dirty" song from the 70s, listen to Slow Ride by Foghat. -M |

And then there's 11 year old me listening to my folks 45 of December 1963 and Afternoon Delight, but my mom was always sure my music 5-6 years later (when I stated finding my own music) was certainly going to turn me into a deviant.

Louie, Louie was even briefly investigated by the FBI in the 60s for allegedly containing foul language and overly suggestive content, or so I've read. I've covered song many times at gigs and I always cram in as many x-rated lyrics as I can.  I mean, most of what the Kingsmen's singer is saying is unintelligible anyway, so I make a game of it: how much foul language can I cram into the song without anyone noticing. My favourite bit is the bit at the end of the second verse about c*ming in her hair.  |

Does anyone else remember "They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa!" by Napoleon XIV? Came out in the summer of '66. Raced into the Top Five and plummeted just as quickly, but this one dropped even faster than most novelty songs because it was dropped from playlists all over the country, even in NYC. www.songfacts.com/image/napoleon-xiv/theyre-coming-to-take-me-away-ha-haaaI think it may have been banned in Britain, too. |

but then it became a HUGE hit, and they started putting it in rotation. .tho it never got a lot of heavy play.
