I will probably always remember Wrightson for an incredibly gross story he did for Epic Illustrated called "The Potty's Over," which I read at the tender age of 14. You can read it here.

I will probably always remember Wrightson for an incredibly gross story he did for Epic Illustrated called "The Potty's Over," which I read at the tender age of 14. You can read it here. He could do a good job balancing horror and humor in the same story. Sometimes, it's like Davis pencils with Ingels inks.

The Potty's Over was great - this is the first time I've read this. Truly disgusting, with great BW art. Thanks for the post/link. Big fan of BW ever since I was a kid. His work on the original Swamp Thing & his illustrated Frankenstein were iconic & classic. And, now that Halloween is coming up, BW's incredible horror story Jenifer comes to mind. I remember the first time I read this was as a kid in the '80's - it was the reprinted color version in Pacific comics (not the original b&w version). This is unquestionably the most terrifying horror comic story I've ever read. Truly grotesque & disturbing, and I mean that as a compliment Here's a link to the comic: www.besthorrorcomics.com/pdf/Jenifer.pdf

Just picked up this Wrightson print in the September auction over at Lonestar. It should be arriving midweek or so, just in time to add a little Halloween flavor to the office decor. "Werewolf" -M

Thanks for sharing this. I hadn't heard. Best wishes to Mr. Wrightson. Here's an image of his that never fails to floor me (use the scroll bar at the bottom of this post) That's one of the most impressive pieces of art I've ever seen in comic book format. Always blows me away.

Today would have been Bernie Wrightson's birthday (appropriate a horror master was born so close to Halloween), and lots of folks are remembering Bernie on social media today, so let's offer up a toast to Bernie here too... -M

Amazing artist! It was a genuine shock when I'd heard he'd passed. I loved the non-horror bits he would do sometimes, and not just Batman or The Shadow... Captain Sternn was great fun!

This thread was before my time here. However, in honor of Berni, I'm posting my all-time favorite Wrightson cover... just in time for Halloween, too.
