A pin-up featuring one of my all-time favourite characters from Kull and the Barbarians #2.

Oddly enough, I finally bought Creepy Presents Bernie Wrightson over the weekend. All the best to Bernie for a speedy recovery.

Wrightson was always good to the fanzines when he was starting out. His talent clearly manifested itself early...

You can really, really see the Frazetta influences in those early works, especially the Gosh Wow! #3 cover.

I was obsessed with Berni's art when I was a teenager. Still love it. Got to meet him at a few shows and he was always friendly and gracious. At Ithacon, he'd do freebie sketches with a thick sharpie. Attachment DeletedAttachment Deleted

I'm not sure I've ever read a comic he had illustrated, but I've liked the images I've seen of his for quite a while.

A pin-up featuring one of my all-time favourite characters from Kull and the Barbarians #2. He would have been the perfect artist for a Solomon Kane series, as opposed to Kull or Conan. Though he did draw a pretty nice Kull story once. But it wasn't Wrightson at his best.

Agreed. I would love to see a Wrightson illustrated Solomon Kane series. Or even just a single story. Maybe Dark Horse could approach him about doing a story for Robert E. Howard's Savage Sword.
Oh well, I can dream at any rate.

This is a bit old (a facebook post from July 18 by Berni's wife Liz) so some may already be aware of this info.
He was also recently inducted into the Will Eisner Hall of Fame but those who've been following/attending Comic-con may know that already.

Thought the worst when I saw this thread's title; glad I was wrong. I'm all for celebrating creators while they're still with us.

Reading that panel he sounds like he'd be a hell of a guy to meet. I agree with his statement on the current state of the industry, and figure that's probably why meeting writers/artists isn't such a dream as it was when I first got into them. I also didn't know he wasn't much of a superhero fan. He did great with Starlin on The Cult. Easily one if my favorite Batman stories.

Glad he's back out there. I got to meet him two years ago (?) when he appeared at my LCS. Got him to sign my copy of Swamp Thing #10. Real nice guy. Over the weekend I picked up that Gargoyle limited series that he did the cover for, as well as an issue of DC's The Shadow where he and Kaluta did the art together. Awesome. I'm just bummed I no longer have my copy of the "Creepshow" adaptation from back in the day.
