Just read the first, and hopefully not last, trade of The Autuer : President's Day. I just mentioned it in the Non-Big Two thread and give it my highest recommendation. Fresh off the biggest bomb in Hollywood history, disgraced and desperate producer Nathan T. Rex enters a downward spiral of drugs and depravity in a quest to resurrect his career and save his soul. Over budget and behind schedule on the latest installment of the horror franchise, PRESIDENTS DAY, T. Rex is backed into a corner by bad publicity, a crap project, and a jerk studio exec, but finds salvation at a strip club by huffing glue, and a chance encounter with cable news. Welcome to the most deranged, notorious, and hilarious comic of 2014! We apologize in advance.

Archie vs Predator was more fun than I imagined.

Hip Hop Family Tree, and I absolutely loved it. I'm so glad I didn't let this one pass me by. I'm a little bit of a hip hop fan, but not nearly enough to have sought the comic out without stumbling upon a free sample online somewhere that I liked. So I decided to check it out because it's priced well, and now I'm impatiently waiting for volume three. It has me wanting to watch Krush Groove again too.

Like dupont, I'm not really the target market for Hip Hop Family Tree, but their Free Comic Book Day comics have been excellent.

Re-read the first two volumes of Criminal by Brubaker and Phillips. Reading The Fade Out definitely made me want to revisit this. Along with Ennis' war books it's probably my favorite read of the last decade.

I have Troop 142 on the way, got it for 40 cents plus shipping for a used copy. Not bad. If I'm getting a nice HC I won't consider buying used from Amazon but for a softcover why not?

I'm currently reading Brian Wood's Dark Horse series The Massive. Wow, amazing stuff. I planned to read just an issue or three to take a break from Micronauts, but I can't stop reading. I think an all-night 31 issue marathon is my destiny.

Stumbled across a copy of Archie Comics #1 on the magazine rack of our local Kroger's this afternoon, and had been curious to see the Waid/Staples relaunch, so picked it up. Quite enjoyed it. I read a handful of Archies as a kid and a few digests worth of material from the past few FCBD, but aside from Afterlife with Archie, I've never really bought an Archie book before, so while aware of the changes in tone and some of the details, I was mostly going in fresh without expectations, and found I quite liked it.

Finished my re-read of all of Brubaker & Philips' Criminal series'. Sigh. I really would love to see them return to this periodically. Not sure what's on tap next. Nothing is jumping out at me.

Did you get the one-shot special (also released in magazine form as Savage Criminal) they released in December of last year when they took a break between arcs of The Fade Out? reg edition (comic sized) magazine sized variant Both are still in stock at Lonestar and other places I am sure. -M

I think I knew that that had happened, but I haven't read it. If it's not collected somewhere I'm unlikely to read it. The nearest comic shop is roughly 155 miles away from me. Unless there's still one in Pocatello. Then it's a mere 75 miles.

They have said they have a few more stories to tell in the Criminal world, and some of those will appear as part of the 5 year deal Bru signed with Image to make whatever he wants and they will publish it, so I would expect more Criminal once they finish The Fade Out.

I just read through Superman: Secret Identity by Kurt Busiek and Stuart Immonen. I guess, strictly speaking, under the guidelines of this board it just barely doesn't count as a modern comic (think it was published in 2004). Don't go reporting me to the mods now. Anyway... what a heartwarming story. I think I'm a big sucker for stories where you follow the character for most of their life into old age. I read it digitally when Comixology had a big Superman sale a while back, but I'm looking forward to getting a nice hardcover version. According to Amazon, DC is releasing a deluxe format HC in the near future.

Been reading a ton of classic stuff, but also working through the pile of trades in my to read pile, mostly modern stuff, and stuff from Marvel Unlimited and a few random unread comics form the stacks, so have read the following modern stuff so far this month...
-The Sixth Gun Vol. 2 & 3 -The Fade Out Vol. 1 -Outcast by Kirkman & Azaceta Vol. 1 -Mercenary Sea Vol. 1
plus a few years older than the 10 year guideline, but thoroughly modern in feel...
-Point Blank -Sleeper Season One -Sleeper Season Two
plus a few random modern comics... -Heavy Metal #276 -Savage Beauty #1 (Moonstone 2011) -a couple of the Dynamite Red Sonja one-shots from '06/'07 (Vacant Shell & Monster Isle) -the Annihilation Conquest books (reg and prelude series, plus the Abnett/Lanning Nova series from that period) -plus reading through some of the Bendis Avengers stuff I skipped when I went on hiatus in '07, mostly curious about what happened with Doc Strange and Luke Cage while I was out of comics, but read through the Civil War era stuff and into the Secret Invasion era stuff, skipping the actual event minis, just reading through the Avengers stuff on Unlimited
I've enjoyed most of the modern stuff so far, some more than others. Not all have been good comics but most have at least been entertaining.
