Take that as giving up if you want. Somehow I know you will. I'm not sure where that assumption came from, nor do I think it's quite fair to me. My point remains that the people disagreeing with you in this thread are not saying what you are saying they are saying. You are free to prove me wrong. If you don't want to, that's your choice, and I have no intention of leaping to judgments if you don't, but if you're not willing to put your money where your mouth is and back up your point, then you are relinquishing the right to keep making that point.

It is sad to see so many men full of self-loathing and guilt about their sex. Your perception is off. I am not a fan of discussing other posters over discussing the actual subject matter, but can't you see how for the rest of us it just looks to us like a lack of empathy with female fans and creators on your part when you can only find "self loathing" as an explanation for our viewpoints? It's not endearing.

It is sad to see so many men full of self-loathing and guilt about their sex. Please don't presume to judge what others are feeling based on your world view. No guilt or self-loathing here. I'm aware and comfortable with who and what I am. I have my eyes open and see what the world is really like. My life isn't perfect and everything isn't the way I'd like it to be. I've faced many adversities, overcome some, failed at others. What I don't do is believe that my problems are caused by others receiving special treatment denied to me because of conspiracies against my gender or race. I also realize that others have experienced systemic discrimination due to their gender or race, and have empathy for them.
As to any sort of "men's rights movements", allow me to quote:
"I believe I've passed the age of consciousness and righteous rage, I've found that just surviving was a noble fight I once believed in causes too, had my pointless point of view Life went on no matter who was wrong or right."

I think there are legitimate men's right's issues to be tackled: Unmarried fathers often aren't being treated fairly in child visitation litigation. Violence against men committed by their partners (female or male) isn't taken seriously. The challenges transgender men are facing.
But of course, "menemists" don't care about those. They care about being allowed unlimited forms of entertainment with no regards for how it affects other people. That is the big issue for them.

I don't think it helps the debate when any group is generalized. Men who defend men should no more be generalized in their beliefs and practices than men who defend women.
Let's stick to what's presented.

Well, let's face it: Men who have that little empathy with women are not that likely to be in a relationship so issues (1) and (2) don't affect them much.

Once more, let's stick to debating with each other's statements and avoid generalizations, especially generalizations that could be considered insulting.

It also robs her of being the hero of her own book, making her a scared (as you pointed out, she looks terrified) damsel-in-distress (while "distress" may be the understatement of the decade) and victim. Show me one male hero who looks like he just pissed herself on the cover of his own book. She does look terrified. She looks as though she's contemplating her own death and what pain might lead up to that. It's as excellent a piece of art as Giger, who most people outside of the Alien find repulsive. I don't read the book that's why until Scott made the thread and those that posted helped inform me, did I have any context for it. I wouldn't own it but I would fault or assume things about someone that did. If one wants to, one should watch themselves around me if we meet in person. Thomas Harris happens to be one of my favorite writers too ;-)

Is he doing anything sexual to her? He's not doing anything sexual to her in the new cover! You are seeing things that aren't there. Its an homage to a story where she was stripped naked and photographed as a form of torture. He's finger painting on her lips. That's sexual. Want to know how to tell if something is sexual or not? Would you do it to your mom?

It is sad to see so many men full of self-loathing and guilt about their sex. I don't have any of that. This kind of reminds me of people accusing whites who aren't racist of having "white guilt." Ever hear someone say white guilt is why Obama won an election? Yep, that guy is a racist. "Self loathing" is not the only way to feel empathy or understand the plight of people in a different demographic of your own. If you believe this to be the case, you're wrong, and probably very flawed as an individual. But luckily, you won't be threatened with rape to the point you have to change your identity because you spoke your mind on the internet, like countless women have, by "Men's Rights" Redditors who were way too bent out of shape over #gamergate.
