Until recently, I've seen very little of movies made this century that aren't Disney, but some kind of switch flipped in my daughter last year, and she went from being easily frightened to a hard-core horror buff overnight. Every Friday and Saturday night is horror movie night now. I assumed nobody hardly makes good movies anymore, let alone good horror movies. Here's my list of modern horror movies I was surprised to like as much as I did:
Train To Busan Dead Snow 2 One Cut Of The Dead (if you haven't seen it, watch this now, and avoid spoilers at all costs!) Ready Or Not Zombieland The Final Girls Cabin In The Woods (and I'm normally turned off by Whedon)
...and, of course, we sat through a lot of so-so movies and a lot of dreck.
I managed to avoid this stinkin' decades-long zombie craze until now, but I had to give in so I can spend quality time with my twisted little girl. It turns out there's some quality zombie stories out there after all. The movie well is running dry, so we're starting on The Walking Dead now.

I'm not a zombie fan by any stretch of the imagination but I enjoyed the French film The Horde. Though it's from 2009 so I don't know if that fits into to modern horror. But it's an enjoyable and unique zombie movie to me.

But it's an enjoyable and unique zombie movie to me. The trailer looks promising. I'll ask my daughter what she thinks, but it looks like it'll be one of our movies this week or next. We generally watch a movie if it looks just a little bit interesting. If nothing else, most horror movies, good or bad, are good fodder for riffing on. To me, "modern" is anything made this century, and maybe going back into the '90s. The release of Scream is a good starting point as far as attitude and production qualities of horror movies that we enjoy (minus the nauseating faux hand-held camera BS)
