The starting lineup of my all time favorite Cubs team (players 1976-present) CF Jose Cardenal 2B Ryne Sandberg (my all time favorite baseball player) 1B Mark Grace RF Andre Dawson 3B Aramis Rameriez LF Gary Matthews C Jody Davis SS Ivan DeJesus P Greg Maddux (my all time favorite pitcher) That team still wouldn't get to the World Series. The Curse of the Billy Goat is too strong My grandfather was born two weeks after the Cubs last won the World Series and I'm very sure they won't be winning it in my lifetime. Theo Epstein will wish he never even heard of the sport of baseball by the time the Cubs get done with him and his plans.

I bought a Cubs hat for $5 because I needed something to wear on my head in the desert that would really soak up the sweat. (And I keep losing my expensive Dodgers caps.) And even though I live in southern California, I can't believe how often, out of nowhere, I'll be crossing the street and somebody will yell out of a passing vehicle: "Yeeeaaahh! Go, Cuuuubs!" or "Go, Chicago!"
Nobody ever does that for my Reds, Dodgers, Angels or Bengals caps.

I think the Cubs became the team for a lot of people without an MLB team in their market back in the 1980s when almost every Cubs game was on WGN, which was on cable systems around the country. In the early days of cable,it was WTBS,Ted Turner's superstation that was on all the east coast cable providers. The Atlanta Braves back then advertised themselves as America's team.New York had the Chicago tv channel briefly, then it was taken off

My all-time Sox team since I have been following them... Closer: Koiji Uehara -M Is that the best you got? Well it wasn't going to be Blob Stanley, Jeff Reardon, Lee Smith, Kent Tekulve, Calvin Schiraldi, or the like. Papelbon got consideration and based only on his Sox performances, could get the nod, but the Sox have a habit of catching closers in free agency after their peak and watching the decline. Of course the Sox have had a lot of workhorses in their rotations that go deep into games so closer never seemed as important a role when you got complete games form your stud starters regularly. So yeah Koji's 1 season of Mo-like numbers is probably the best we got. Yanks had two of the best ever to play in the majors in Goose and Mo, but in today's day and age of limited pitch counts and disposable bullpen arms, you will not likely see another dominant closer last more than 4-5 years in the league, so no one will touch the records set by Mo and his predecessors until the baseball paradigm switches again. -M
