Wish I had a copy of #31. Not sure if I read it when it came out but I went to the World's Fair many, many times back in '64/65. It was in walking distance from where I grew up in Forest Hills,Queens. Besides my parents taking me a few times, my friends and I discovered a section of fence we could crawl under to get in. However food and attractions were a bit expensive for a 10 year old boy so all we could do was run around. It was a beautiful and exciting fair, I love seeing old photos and films of it. BTW, the Unisphere is still standing We lived about an hour away, but only went once--my father was not one to wait on long lines. My cousins from Detroit, though, c came, stayed at our house and went every day for a week. (We did, however, spend a few days at Expo 67 in Montreal) I love the look of the fair, though, and have a couple shelves of memorabilia from it. Interesting sidenote: a few years back as i was listening to recording's of Jean Shepherd's show, he did a couple on how the various exhibitors at the fair were being shaken down by the unions.

That seems good Wow, that's ALOT of titles... was there anything to differentiate them (besides what you've already mentioned about Life with Archie)? I assume the one with different title characters featured that title person, but were the others just more titles to get more books on the stand? They each technically had their own slant, although for the most part they were basically interchangeable. For instance, Pep was an anthology series that featured short strips with characters from across the Archieverse - Archie and Lil' Jinx were featured pretty much every issue, but beyond that you could get stories about anyone from Wilbur to Miss Beazley. Archie and Me was actually focused on Mr. Weatherbee, while Archie at Riverdale High was technically school stories, but also had longer form, more serious stories similar to Life with Archie (but much more grounded). Etc.

Added reviews for #111-114.
I am temporarily going to deviate from the chronological postings I've been doing so far. I just got in a batch of random issues to plug holes in my collection (I am not missing just one issue - 136 - to have #77-286), and I don't want to wait to read them, so I will be hopping around in my reviews for a while.

You've got me very interested in this series now. I may have had one or two here or there in the past. I used to have way more Archies than I do now, that's for sure. Don't know what could possibly have happened to them, I probably traded them as a kid. I have a handful now but none from this series. Until now I never knew there was really a difference from one series to another as long as they all were done in the classic style illustration. Betty, Veronica, Jughead, Archie, seemed no matter who the title character was, the stories were all the same. Not that it was a bad thing, I love them for a break from the drama stuff I usually read. But I'm glad to see this series is what it is.

Added reviews for #156, 164, 166, 167, 169 and 176.
I also added some more clarification regarding the rating system I am using. While I am rating on a scale of 0-4 stars, I'm basically using a weighted system. 1 star is average, while anything above that is above average.
So for example, in a classic 0-4 star rating system, something that gets 2 stars would be considered average or below average. That's not my intent. If I give something 2 stars, that means that the story is actually above average, as it has earned a bonus star from the baseline of one star that all classic LWA stories receive.
Since this might not be completely intuitive, I added an explanation to the first post.
I don't want people to look at the list of issues, see all these 1 and 2 star reviews and think, "boy, this whole series sucked, why is he reviewing it!" This series being what it is, there are very few actively bad issues beyond those that depart from the classic LWA formula. If were using a letter grading system, I think most of the issues I have marked with one star would probably get a B-. That's the baseline. Everything above one star is something good.

I realized that formatting things this way makes it pretty difficult to quote, since it will quote 25 entries at once and everything, but unfortunately, that's just the way it's going to work out. I realize copying and pasting adds an extra layer of effort to responding to specific things, but at the moment, it seems like the best workaround. I really wanted all the reviews to be in order, and since I don't have all the issues yet and won't be getting some of them for a long time, formatting it this way seemed the best way to go.

Loving this thread, Scott. I wanted to thank you for doing it. (My comic budget doesn't agree, though.) Two things about issue 221 - "Archie and Jughead pretend to be Veronica's sister to help with a business deal." Um, they pretend to be her brothers, surely. Though, the sister bit probably would've been funnier. "In the second backup, Veronica buys a pair of wooden carvings from an exotic land. One is stolen, and the other causes her to fall deathly ill." But you don't tell us if she gets better! C'mon, man, you can't leave us hanging like that.

Thanks for the kind words, I'm glad you're enjoying the thread. I just got another issue in today, one of the few issues in the run that is in demand by anybody - #8, which has an Elvis themed cover - so I'll be reading it later on tonight:

I'm really enjoying this thread, Scott. I'm only a casual Archie fan, really, and my entire Archie collection presently consists of a single 1000 page digest from 2013 that reprints random stories, from random titles, from the '40s through to the 2000s. So, I doubt I'll have much to contribute to this thread, but I'm definitely enjoying being a spectator.
