Ended with 88 books read this month , up from 61 of the previous month.
The Good:
The Magus Saga which I read in the Masterworks edition. I have to say that the story popped in that format.
Captain Marvel (v.1) 61-62 continued in Marvel Spotlight 1-3
This storyline by Doug Meonch and Pat Broderick was really good. It involved a plan from the deceased (at the time) Thanos to wipe out Titan and using the Isaac computer to do it.
Judgement Day By Alan Moore and Rob Liefeld et al.
Moore weaves a tale of betrayal and reveals the mystical side of the Awesome universe while introducing many characters from it’s past. The obvious handicap of Liefelds art is strengthened by various chapters drawn by an all star team like Jim Starlin, Gil Kane and others.

More Walt goodness as I read these books for the first time.
Real Heroes 1,2
This is a series Written and Drawn by Brian Hitch. The basic premise is that actors on a superhero TV series are transported to a parallel world where that worlds heroes are killed , in order to help out . Not a bad execution and ,of course, great art.
The Bad

Bad art, bad story. This is the poster boy for the trashy side of the 90’s.
The Meh
Astro City 11- How many times can I read a story about the person in the background instead of the person with the powers.
Warlock Infinity watch 16-20
I’m still in the period where Starlin had to keep throwing in stories relating to the infinity crossovers. I wouldn’t call them terrible but what a waste of issues.

Cei-U said something a few years back about the CCbook Club, he said that it felt like he was competing and he bowed out because he felt it was needless pressure. It feels like that sometimes. But I'm really thinking that I should average over 3 a day to make 100 for the month. I'm way off and I think I'm averaging a little over 2.

Every year by July/August I start to think, maybe this should be my last year doing this, and by October November I am certain it will be, then come New Years there's that rush of excitement and everything is new again and everyone is gearing up for the new year and I join in....so either deep down I really enjoy it..or I'm just a sucker easily swept up by things...  -M |

I'm struggling this month to read. Part of it is that I read a huge amount last month and built up a bit of a cushion toward my goal, part of it has been my travel schedule for work, part of it has been the start of my daughters' fall activities (soccer, weeknight church group), and part of it has been me watching more baseball now that the pennant races have gotten into full swing.
This is my second year doing this, and while sometimes it feels like a chore, I think it's good for me, as it forces me to be mindful about reading. If I didn't have a goal in mind, I would probably go weeks without reading anything, because I can always find something else to do, but I have so many unread books, I need to be pushed.

SO it's been a long time since Grant Morrison has written anythingthat I enjoyed, and I have been fairly vocal with my critiques of his work post-Invisibles, but I need to give it up for Multiversity: Society of Super-Heroes-Conquerors from the Counter-Earth #1. It still has a lot of the flaws of Grant's big idea phase of his work, but this was just an incredibly fun story, I only wish it was a bit longer so the ideas/characters could get developed more. I love the redesign of Doc Fate by Chris Sprouse and ironically, this one-shot issue is more interesting tome than just about anything DC has done going on near a decade...I could so read an ongoing adventures of Doc Fate book....

Elric Vol. 1 The Ruby Throne from Titan (reviewed in full in From the Sorcerer's Scroll) well worth checking out if you are a fan of Elric, Moorcock, or sword and sorcery in general. Gorgeous art.

58 issues read in September. Bringing my annual total to 928 (assuming my math is anywhere near correct. I'll be going through the whole list at the end of the year just in case).
Best read of the month was Journey vol. 1, which I've been wanting to read for quite some time now, since I was a kid actually. Can't wait to read more. Biggest disappointment of the month was probably God Hates Astronauts, which I found to just be trying too hard. Reminded me of a 90's humor comic.
I did finish my second Fantagraphics hardcover collection of EC work, this time the horror contributions of Jack Davis, which I did enjoy but not quite as much as the Wally Wood volume I started with. But overall I think this series is excellent, and will be starting a new volume for October.

Best stories I read in September: I'm glad I finally got around to reading From Hell. Mat Johnson's Incognegro was excellent. I also really enjoyed the Wilfred Santiago artwork in 21 The Story of Roberto Clemente and the story is outstanding.

I finished off the month with 78 issues read and 30 over the last few days because of long airplane flights. Lots of solid avengers and FF runs but I read Maus for the first time. Pretty gritty and I can see why it would win all the awards.
The Good: Maus, Avengers 72-75.
The Bad: Nothing was terrible but the Avengers vs. Thunderbolts mini series was lackluster.
The Ugly: nothing terrible, but I think I stayed away from the obvious crap this month.

I only read 30 last month due to the lack of new DCs.
I bought and read 19 yesterday, so October is looking better already.

Starting to look like I might not even hit the 1,000 mark this year. Numbers, themselves, don't mean anything, but it's definitely reflective of the fact that I feel I haven't read enough for these past few months and CERTAINLY haven't read enough that was particularly good/memorable.
