So far I have about 30ish issues on a short list. A couple of them are there for sentimental reasons. They're not huge issues but they're classics to me for reasons. I might have some odd ones on this list.... some left field stuff.

I will be partaking in my first classic comic Christmas this year. I did not before because I did not feel as involved but this forum is so great and it is time I contribute.
Actually maybe I did participate last year...was it favourite costumes? Either way, I am ready for this year!

I'm a big Avengers fan and my early list is filled with that title. I might have to have a self imposed rule of no more than 2 from the same title. I'm running into the same thing with Avengers and the Legion, but I'm just going to go with it. My faves are my faves.

I could tear my hair out trying for a top 12 issues of a lot of teams or heroes. It's possible that I may wind up being the only person in the forum with no Marvel comics on my list. So we do Top 12 for Christmas then list our top 500 Honorable Mentions until Easter?

I found the initial explanation perfectly easy to understand, Kurt.

I found the initial explanation perfectly easy to understand, Kurt. Yeah, but you're a lawyer, Slam. After wading through long documents of impenetrable legalese, untangling a couple paragraphs of my sorry syntax must be a breeze. Cei-U! I summon the walk in the park!

I haven't begun firming up a proper written down list yet, but the first dozen or so comics I've just picked off of the top of my head are all from Marvels' Star Wars series or else Silver and Bronze Age issues of Amazing Spider-Man! Surely there must be more variation to my tastes than that?! I need to devote some proper time to combing through my comic collection and jotting down favourites.

My list is done, at least until I change my mind. Much of it is from my '05 list but there a few additions and deletions that surprised even me.
Cei-U! I summon the wavering resolve!

With the '05 list, I misunderstood the criteria and went with my favorite stories, so my '14 list will be significantly different. I've also read a lot more classic comics since then.

I could pick 12 Weisinger Era Superman's and feel good about my list. I do want to spread the wealth around, so I might just settle for one.

Speaking for myself, there's probably going to be a huge amount of Batman on my list. He's my second favorite character and he might get shut out as far as solo stories are concerned. My favorite one is a two parter and another favorite is a short story. The one I'm thinking of adding wouldn't have qualified last year.

I thought I'd take a slightly different approach to Kurt's event this year. And it was actually the mastermind himself who planted the seed of thought with his initial "desert island" analogy.
While my collection is actually still very heavily weighted to floppies and single issues, with collected editions growing but still a punter in the colossus of boxes long and short with with I've unhealthily surrounded myself, I figured nevertheless I'd pick a dirty dozen of those comics which best represent my overall love of comics. If I was on a desert island or, heaven forbid, things here were about to go up in flames and I could only pick 12 comics that would serve as representatives of the lost thousands, of the overall colour, taste, character and aesthetic of my horde of funny books what few would I take as the basis of my comic book memory palace.
Or put another way what 12 books would I send into space as the proverbial time capsule to preserve the memory and essence of my collection.
These comics will all hold special meaning for me, and though they might or might not be my most cherished books, I think it's the best way to come up with a good variety and not just pick 12 Fantastic Four or Steve Gerber comics.
