So it comes to it at last, the great question of our age: is this the tenth Twelve Days of Classic Comics Christmas or the first? The answer, my friends, is yes!
For those of you not part of the Great Emigration of 2014, TDCCC is an annual exploration of the tastes, opinions and quirks of our happy little community of classic comics fans. I began it back in 2005 over on Comic Book Resources, where (to my eternal shock and pleasure) it became a tradition, one I wouldn't dream of futzing with. Actually, I have a confession to make: that first year it was the Ten Days of CCC because Dopey Me misremembered the carol's lyrics. I've always had a hankering to correct that particular foul-up. What better, more fitting time to do it than our first holiday season together at the Classic Comics Forum? In that spirit of old friends and fresh starts, I give you this year's theme:
We're talking single issues here, folks, the physical paper-and-ink artifacts, not individual stories. Omnibuses, Archives, Masterworks, Essentials, Showcases, trade collections, and the like are not allowed (though original content graphic novels are okay) but otherwise the sky's the limit: any genre, any era, any nation of origin, any format from mini-comics to treasury-size, is eligible*. You do not have to own a copy of your pick, now or ever. The only absolute restriction is that it was published prior to January 1, 2005 ('cause it's the Classic Comics Forum, doncha know). You do not have to include an image of your selection but if you can, please do.
Keep in mind that these are your personal favorites, not what you or anyone else considers “the best,” and remember: you must explain your choice.
The survey will work just as it has in previous years. Each participating poster will draw up a list of their favorite comic books, ranked 12 (lowest) through 1 (highest). On December 13, I will post my #12 choice, on the 14th, #11, and so on until our #1 choices on Christmas Eve. You must post each selection on the appropriate day's thread, though not necessarily on that day. Late entries (up through, say, the 31st) are welcome. At the end of the survey, the results and a brief statistical overview will be stickied with pointers to the original 12 threads.
Rules are subject to tweaking based on participant input for the next week (until midnight on December 7), after which they’re locked in. Any questions, suggestions or (horrors!) criticisms should be posted in this thread.
So this is your official heads up: you have two weeks and a hair to create your lists before the fun starts. Who's in?
Cei-U!
I summon the phoenix!
* I try to keep public rules lawyering to a minimum so I encourage you to contact me via PM if you have any questions about your choice's eligibility.
