So many great books and only 12 choices.

The vast majority of my choices come from about a 2-3 year period. In fact most are from about a one year period. It's nostalgia zone. Yeah, almost all of mine come from the same 57 year period. (I'm not really wired for nostalgia, and I think you all are weird. My # 1 is a comic from 1964 I first read when I was 28.)

Managed to create an initial list of 15, all more that 5 years old (that was the conditions for inclusion in the old classics board, I think?). Check conditions. "Must be before 2005". Aaargh! I now have a list of 7, and I've lost my 11th day choice Back to drawing board.... I at least know what day 12 will be, and that's definitely in the right range!

Been too damned distracted for various depression-inducing reasons to participate, but I'm gonna try to whip out #s 2-12 by the end of the day. (Got to meet someone for lunch, not that I can afford such a frivolity, in a few.)
Dunno if what I normally generate for these is worth reading, but at the very least my entries are almost always genuinely verbose ... but under these & other circumstances I have a feeling that's not going to be the case this year.
Lucky y'all.

(I'm not really wired for nostalgia, and I think you all are weird. And I'm the opposite. Take away the nostalgia factor, & I seriously doubt I'd be here. I limited my picks to mostly 1967 & 1968, with a couple from 1969 & one from 1970; I encountered them all from ages 7-10, which is pretty much my personal Golden Age. Basically, if a comic hasn't had 40+ years to marinate in my heart & mind, as it were, it doesn't qualify. That meant hardening my heart & excluding two of my 2005 picks that came out in '76, alas.

So my twelve are up and posted. Most came from the 70s with a few dalliances into the 80s and 60s. I tried to pick the 12 that had the most meaning and personal impact on me as a comic reader, books that either caused my preferences or echoed them in later years, and that I first encountered in single issue form, not in trades and that caveat shaped a lot of choices that might not have made it if stuff I encountered in trade were included, and excluded a lot of stuff I didn't first encounter in individual form. My first draft was a list of favorite stories no matter how I encountered them and I was going to find formats I had read them in that made them eligible, but after stepping away for a while and taking some time to reflect on what comics mean to me and why I read them still at this point in my life, I started from scratch looking at my favorite actual comics that lead me to where I am today.
So happy holidays all, enjoy life, enjoy comics, and I will see you when I see you next time I come around.

I suspect I'm one of the few people for who the majority of my list was published before I was even born (1979).
1940s: 1 1950s: 1 1960s: 3 1970s: 2 1980s: 3 1990s: 2
DC: 5 Marvel: 5 Gold Key: 1
Comics that I read when they were new: 3 Comics that I read long after they'd been published: 9
Comics starring Batman and/or Robin: 3 Comics starring (any members of) the X-Men: 3
Comics that mattered to me because of the memories attached to them: 7 Comics that mattered to me because of their historic significance: 7 Comics that mattered to me because they were just plain awesome: 5
Comics published before I was born: 7 Comics published after I was born: 5

Marvel: 7 DC/Wildstorm: 2 Other: 3
1970s: 1 1980s: 1 1990s: 6 2000s: 4
Read when (relatively) new: 8 Comics read later: 4
Superhero: 10 Other: 2
Within the superhero heaviness, diversity was artificially imposed. I allowed 2 Spider-Man stories, 2 Thanos stories, 2 Avengers stories
Strangest omissions given my tastes: Usagi Yojimbo, Alan Moore, Steve Ditko. Rules kicked them all out.
